Night sky mental health boost for astronomy fan
Nigella Bryant replied to FLO's topic in The Astro Lounge
I suffer from anxiety and panic attacks, I'm not afraid to say so. Yesterday was the worst in a long time. I went out to the dome today and doing some Solar imaging and observing was so refreshing. Being under our nearest star with a mug of coffee is satisfying and beautiful. -
OBSERVATORY ROOF TURNED UPSIDE DOWN IN HIGH WINDS - OUCH! 😱
Nigella Bryant replied to paulastro's topic in The Astro Lounge
Hopefully you'll get to those repairs soon. Glad it still can be used. -
Are you using an eyepiece phone holder? Are there manual settings on your phone? My p10 has manual override for ISO, exposure etc, etc. I've never used it for solar imaging just meteor showers. I use a dedicated mono Zwo ASI 178mm camera

It's just the normal crayford focuser. Modded a jmi focus motor from a 10inch scope I had a few years ago. Works really well. -

I think most insurance companies will say that you have to add a specific item with it's cost above £1000 then it's added to the insurance with the added premium on top for that item/s. That's what my insurance did. That's for outside the home use too.

I usually groom mine once a month, lol. Seriously though telescope cat has lots of dust on the corrected plate and I've ever only cleaned the mirror once in ten years.

Thanks Jeremy, it was an amazing month. I just ordered a Lunt B1800 Ca-K module too so excitedly awaiting that. It'll be a few weeks wait as it wasn't in stock, maybe even months, who knows. I'm quite excited with this February's line up. -
Hi all, I've just posted all my February images from February 2021 to the British Astronomical Association Solar Section and thought others might appreciate the last months solar activity. Scopes used were the Lunt 60mm DS and 80ed stopped down to 60mm. A Zwo Asi 178mm camera was used for all the images and false colour was added in Photoshop CS2. Stacking software was the freeware Autostakker3 and ImPPG. Images were taken between the 12th and 28th February 2021

Glad you also get help from your furbabies too, lol. Mine are always helpful.

OBSERVATORY ROOF TURNED UPSIDE DOWN IN HIGH WINDS - OUCH! 😱
Nigella Bryant replied to paulastro's topic in The Astro Lounge
Sorry to hear this, glad it didn't damage anything else. My worst nightmare with my dome and RoR but I've built in security hooks and bolts so it takes care of wind and security at the same time. -
Dogs are better than cats, Lagoon neb
Nigella Bryant replied to Marvin Jenkins's topic in Observing - with Binoculars
Definitely cat's. Mine frequently keep me company while observing. Or should I say, trying to image, lol. I've had dog's before who wouldn't stay with you very long in the cold. -
I don't have any automation. With the pulley system I can position the shutter in any position. I just tie the rope to the dome in that particular position.

Welcome to the bright side of astronomy Stuart. You won't regret it, but your bank balance might, lol. Have fun with our star, it's very dynamic and change's daily, that's what I like about it. -
