  1. Having used both newts and dobs for quite a few years now I actually agree with what he says but also feel he only shares a small aspect of the comparison. Yes I like the aperture of my dobs but compared with the view through my 120mm Equinox the stars look blobby. It's not all about aperture but for some targets aperture matters. I as always am glad to be lucky enough to be able to select one of my three newts/dobs or my Equinox or even my bins to observe. Why restrict yourself if funds allow.
  2. Me too buddy although it slopes a bit ? I hope to convert to a truss system at some point which will make life easier.
  3. In some respects (when there's a fair bit of activity) I prefer white light solar as the detail can often be jawdropping. It's great too in Ha and good to have both but you have to work a bit harder for the detail in Ha.
  4. I have only ever had one Vixen, a 80mm f11 achromat. It was beautifully made and with the 2" focuser. Really great for what it was but ED aperture won in the end. Incredibly light and sharp too.
  5. I completely agree with @CrazyPanda I have five pairs of TV plossls (8mm, 11mm, 15mm, 20mm, and 25mm) and love these for solar system objects but for Cyclops I prefer my 7mm, 9mm and 11mm Delites which are more comfy but too large and expensive for binoviewers for my tastes.
  6. A new tripod bag today plus a used WO wide dovetail yesterday and a Moonlite extension courtesy of John and Stu.
  7. hi buddy see one of the main reasons for the swap being : one less scope in the house = brownie points one frac for home and away = convenience potentially I might even convert this to Ha / pst mod too. Then I only have one frac for all things - this is in the balance currently. Technically I am reducing my refractors so although yes I like them, I have more newts
  8. Oh I normally use a 1.7x glasspath corrector (2.6x with solar)
  9. I use Baader Maxbrights with a Baader t2 prism. Also used with my Baader cool wedge for white light and a 1.25" nose with my pst mod. All connected with t2 to shorten the optical path.
  10. Superb John. One day maybe one day. Until then I'll continueto (eq)uine about not seeing it.
  11. Hi Louis I am going off memory but it's not CA in the typical sense where it shows as a fringe. Rather it seemed to be flashes of blue and pink as I moved my eye around to take in the view. It was like the moon was flashing colours as I observed and I found it very irritating. It was present in 26mm Nagler, 16mm Nagler, 13mm Ethos, 17.3mm Deloss and 8mm Delos. To a lesser extent in 10mm and 8mm Radian but never in Delite, older Naglers or Panoptics. Maybe it's just me or I was misinterpreting what I saw.
  12. It was only on the moon John but I look at the moon every time out and need an eyepiece to work on all targets. I've ad the same issue with t5 Naglers but not t1/2. Perhaps it's my eyes!
  13. I did of course mean Nagler zoom LOL. I really hated Delos (and Ethos) on the moon as they had to my eyes at least too much lateral chromatic aberration. Not so with Delites (or Plossls / Panoptics).
  14. Delites are awesome. That said a move from a Mahler zoom 3-6mm to equivalent Delites would be expensive!
  15. Yeah I have my main map books in a pile from my last session.
  16. It' a great read. Recommended by John a while back.
