  1. I used to be able to split Epsilon Lyrae naked eye, count 14 stars in the Pleiades and spotting M33 was a test for the seeing conditions. Sadly, age has taken its toll and I can no longer even split Mizar and Alcor naked eye. ๐Ÿ™
  2. I like cats, I seem to have collected a clouder, 15 at the last count. Photos of some on the website. Feline at home. ๐Ÿ˜€
  3. Shouldn't be a problem, they don't need to be tight anyway. You could put a bit of silicone on the outer edge to stop anything wobbling. If you have the suitable facilities you could drill the broken screws out and re-tap if necessary. ๐Ÿ™‚
  4. Steve's eyesight is legendary. There is always someone somewhere that can see fainter, hold their breath longer, or run faster than most. For the average observer with good skies +6 mag is quite good going for naked eye. Don't forget that each magnitude increment is roughly 2.6x fainter. ๐Ÿ™‚
  5. I would leave them as they are. They would most likely appeal to a collector and could well realise a price that would cover the cost of a modern binocular of similar size with the advantage of better lenses, coatings, ability to change eyepieces, angled viewing and replacement components in a case of damage. Would love a look through though!. ๐Ÿ˜€
  6. A number of conditions can cause this. Moisture in the air, light dewing of the telescope optics, slight dewing of the eyepiece lens due to the warmth of your eye. ๐Ÿ˜€
  7. Excellent results, new setup and owner working well. ๐Ÿ˜€
  8. Doubling the aperture gains roughly 1.5 magnitudes deeper viewing. Doubling the light grasp is probably the minimum worthwhile upgrade in this respect. ๐Ÿ™‚
  9. Best to try and get some specific details. There is a world of difference between collimation or replacing a broken component. ๐Ÿ™‚
  10. Very nice resolution despite the conditions, roll on a good night!. I have often tested ERF's for quality by observing the Moon through them, the redness seems to enhance the crispness. ๐Ÿ˜€
  11. Nice "sepia" colour, was the D-ERF still on? ๐Ÿ˜€
  12. A possible inexpensive solution could be to unscrew the lens holders from a couple of standard SW 2x Barlows and fit them to the eyepiece barrels . This would give a slightly increased magnification but might create enough extra back focus. ๐Ÿ™‚
  13. @Rusted. I brought this up as I'm pretty sure that Lunt blocking filters do not work as well with Coronado etalons as Coronado blocking filters do with Lunt etalons. I was suggesting that this possibility should be checked out to avoid disappointment particularly as they are so expensive. A post to this effect would be worth raising on Solarchat. ๐Ÿ™‚
  14. I'd be cautious about this. I've no direct experience but there have been comments on other solar forums questioning the compatibility of Lunt blocking filters and Coronado etalons. ๐Ÿค”
  15. Spray some "Plusgas" on them now and they will be ready for Easter. ๐Ÿ™‚
  16. Very promising debut for the new rig. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
  17. So sorry to hear of this. Norman made the 6" minor axis secondary for our 30" Dobsonian.
  18. I think ยฃ14.99 is it's absolute limit. ๐Ÿ˜€
  19. With a good choice of affordable greases easily available, why would a large scale manufacturer of telescopes use an unsuitable grease? ๐Ÿคจ
  20. I think the main issue might be vignetting. I would look into getting the best eyepiece adaptor as far as holding power is concerned. I use a binoviewer exclusively on my solar telescope and use 4 securing screws to hold the diagonal firmly in place. ๐Ÿ˜€
  21. Unless you can think of an alternative use for the mount, for what it's cost you, probably best to put it back on the pavement. Sorry! ๐Ÿ˜ข
