  1. Before I go the Raspian route, I'll try the Mate Pi version, even though its for the older boards, there may be enough commonality to at least kick it into life....
  2. Well.... there is a flavour of Windows 10 that will run on the Pi's (maybe not the new ones yet), its the Windows 10 IoT Core (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/iot-core/downloads) but its very limited in what it can do. Last time I looked at it, it could only run 1\2 things at a time, as the Pi soon ran out of resources with the OS overheads etc.
  3. Damn, one thing about the new Pi's, is the video out connectors use the micro HDMI ports, for which I have no cables as yet, but they are on their way.....
  4. Guysoft & Foosel are currently having fun getting, Octopi 0.16 to run on the new hardware, but there is a dev build available.....
  5. Just be aware, they are not a direct, drop in replacement, new drivers will need to be written to cope with newer firmware.
  6. I also save image files direct to a NAS device over Gb network, and hopefully I may be able to answer some of your questions, as I've just had a notice that my order has been shipped !! really surprised, as there are some reports that nothing would be shipped this year !!
  7. Farnell & RS usually keep larger stock volumes....
  8. Think of all those peeps that have bought an ASIAir\Stellarmate with a much lower spec model...
  9. One of the reasons I went for the Rock64 was the better spec, but now that Pi's have caught up, it will be interesting to see what happens, especially in Indi development, now there's more grunt to play with....
  10. Not yet, but I'm sure the 4Gb will be back in stock soon, as I see it as the better version for Astro work.....
  11. Just seen that there's a new beefier version of the Raspberry Pi available (see https://thepihut.com/products/raspberry-pi-4-model-b ) I'll have to bite the bullet & get one.....
  12. Also be aware there are potentially 525 other updates for build 1903...…. 🤣
  13. Then have a look using Control Panel \ All Control Panel Items \ Programs and Features \ View Installed Updates
  14. Forget the USB leads, as unless you want to run local hubs, the distances are probably too great for reliable operation. The same may also hold true for HDMI, which in theory can have longer runs, but it will be dependant on signal type e.g. 480p, 720p as opposed to 1080pamd higher, due to the higher frequencies of the signals and their attenuation along the cables....
  15. Cat5\6, everything else can then run over wired network
  16. The main reason to use stranded, is down to cable movement, i.e. if there's a chance of repeated cable movement then use stranded. But if everything is fixed, and won't move then solid should be ok. Personally, I'm always moving stuff around, hence I use ultra flexible stranded.
  17. For high current DC, you need to use a multicore conductor cable e.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/11-AMP-12V-0-5mm-ROUND-Wall-2-Twin-Core-DC-Power-Cable-Wire-Car-LED-Lights-Auto/322122571570?hash=item4b00005f32:m:mdZKAKRETOvjsj2GQtjBRYQ It can start to get expensive if you have many long lengths to run.
  18. I have mains out to my garden pier, which is properly terminated in suitable enclosures, never had any issues with the power....
  19. IF everything runs off a nominal 12v supply, and you've put in cables that are heavy duty, to ensure that there is no drop of voltage\current, then a single central supply maybe ok. Personally, as good quality mains\5\12\24v supplies are cheap and readily available, I'd run mains power & network to each mount, to ensure that whatever the requirement that basics are available.
  20. I always go earlier, so I'll be the one being blown around down in the corner.....
  21. One word, Postcrete… sooo much easier.
  22. Within the central computer\processing unit, there will be some form of logical command system that sends & receives signal data to & from the mount. If, as you say the device updates ok, then the general communication port & protocols (the link between the synscan & mount\pc) must be working ok, therefore the problem must lie within this command system.
  23. Then that would suggest that there is a hardware failure, as the synscan controllers are just mini\dedicated computers, that direct the mount where to go, and, if as you say it updates ok, then it must be a failure within the logic control system of the controller.
