Scope choice and Scottish skies
Skipper Billy replied to Jimboscotland's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
You are a way down the coast from me but you will have the same issue as me which will affect things far more than the choice of scope - the Atlantic!!! Endless cloud and moisture and we get the full force of depressions coming in from the west. -

Tack Goran. Useful info to keep up me sleeve - I have decided to wait for Obsy MkII before upgrading as we are likely to move house in the next 18 months. Tack sa mycket ! -

Are Starlight Xpress dead in the water?
Skipper Billy replied to Adam J's topic in Discussions - Cameras
I have owned a SX SXV-H9, an Atik 314 and 460 and still use a SX Lodestar and have just bought a Lodestar Pro. My main imaging camera is an Atik 16200. They were/are all excellent cameras and my 16200 produces images that belie my meagre skills. I had an issue with one of the Atiks - I think it was the 460 and it was fixed within a week - no charge even though it was well out of warranty. I also have two ZWO 178 - one of them developed a fault and ZWO said it wasnt worth fixing - throw it away!!! -

I can highly recomend EPDM as an alternative to felt. I wee bit more expensive but much easier to apply and lasts years and years..... https://www.rubber4roofs.co.uk/shop/epdm-rubber-roofing

That is a LOVELY photograph!! Chapeau! -
Ah summer in Scotland. It's probably my favourite day of the year 😉 Well done - looking good!

The Geoptic counterweights supplied with a Mesu mount are advertised as 'stainless steel' but clearly are not stainless steel. Over the off season I left them with a local company that repairs and powder coats car alloy wheels. They have done a good job and they shouldnt rust now! £40 well spent I think.

I recently swapped the flat ribbon USB cable that came with an ASI178 for a Lindy Chromo and got an immediate 32% gain in max frame rate.

Pegasus Power box showing 13.5 volts
Skipper Billy replied to Mark Jo's topic in Getting Started With Imaging
A fully charged '12 volt' battery is actually about 13.7 - 13.9 volts - hence most power supplies are set at about 13.7v to mimic a fuly charged 12 volt battery. If a 12v battery is showing 12v it is almost 'flat'.- 7 replies

I used 'Superlube' which is a very lightweight grease - and good for -42º to +232º ( fine for Scottish Highlands!! 😉 )- it made adjusting the backlash out so much easier as it wasnt clogging up the spaces between the gears.

There are downsides to living in the back of beyond - all these things are a two hour drive away - buying clothes and shoes, good quality supermarket (Waitrose etc), buying a car, getting cars serviced, hospitals, large shops of any kind etc A soon as we mention our postcode for deliveries we get hammered with surcharges or more often a straight NO we dont dont deliver to Highlands and Islands. On the upside - its a 2 hour drive to MacDonalds, KFC and Burger King!! The nearest street light is at least 3 miles away and going outside at new moon and a clear sky and looking up makes it all worth it.

It might vary from version to version but on mine copy and move are shown as symbols not words at the top of the context box. Before I spotted that I found that right clicking a second time brought up those commads as words not symbols. Weird ....

Upgraded a while ago - zero issues - it just looks like a 'Fisher Price' version of W10 - childish fonts etc.

Thanks for the info dan_adi but I am severely space limited - it has to fit in a 4' x 4' box! My current setup just fits. -

I went through the same process a while ago and ended up buying an R6 - I have never regretted it.
