But you didn't ask for CC or suggest that you were open to CC. Very few people are going to look at an image and wade in with suggestions to improve it when CC hasnt been asked for, that would just be rude! You said you were quite happy with the result and at the end of the day that's all that matters.

Should i use a UV filter for PHD2 guiding?
Skipper Billy replied to bluesilver's topic in Discussions - Cameras
I use a cheap IR cut filter (ZWO) on my guide camera (Lodestar) and the star image is definitely a little tighter - whether that helps PHD2 or not I cant tell but I would imagine it should?? -
Crikey - that is sharp!! Well done.

I have never thought of SGL as a place to post images for 'likes' - I would imagine Instagram and Facebook are the places for that?? I have posted images on here when I have needed expert help and it has been received in vast quantities particularly when I first started out in imaging. Now I know a bit more about what I am doing I try to put something back in by answering questions when I can and providing constructive criticism where I am able to. I genuinely cant see a reason to be upset by an image that was posted a little over 24 hours ago not having received plaudits.

There are a couple of differences between my screen shot and yours - might be worth trying??

I will have a look at my settings after dinner - I am using the same mount and NINA and after some faffing about it now works first time every time.

Thanks all for your kind comments. The L subs were 600 seconds binned 1x1 and the RGB was 120 seconds binned 2x2 The wee fuzzy far right middle is PGC67671 - I dont think I will be imaging that any time soon! 😉

It was !! It was so strong that the colours were easily naked eye visible. -
Thank you! I love my big fat noisy archaic CCD!!

Aurora 3rd/4th November
Skipper Billy replied to Skipper Billy's topic in Imaging - Widefield, Special Events and Comets
Canon 70D, Samyang 14mm lens (wide open), 20 second exposures, ISO 3200, 372 images stacked for the star trail and converted to video for the time-lapse. -
In the excitement of the Aurora I had almost forgotten that I finally managed to get the colour for the Dark Shark Nebula that I got the Mono for about 2 months ago! (The last clear night!!) 3 hours Luminance binned 1x1 and about 45 mins each for RG&B binned 2x2 - grabbed in gaps between the clouds. I would like a lot more data but if we are only going to get one clear night every two months this will have to do and I will live with the noise in the image. 106mm refractor, Atik 16200 mono camera, Baader LRGB filters. Dark Shark Nebula LRGB Fully processed.tif

You need to calibrate PHD2 on a star that is near the celestial equator and the Meridian - which for us is due south. It sounds like you might have a lot of backlash in your mount which will need to be adjusted out. You can minimise this by running the mount 'east heavy' but its best to adjust it. There is a useful document on my website that will help you. PHD2 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zY8jNZkrNezQxG2h3LP6_Xp6a5YKYtFF/view There are loads of YouTube videos on how to adjust out the backlash. Good Luck!

Try doubling or even tripling your step size setting and reduce the number of steps to 11. -

Stellarium - telescope reticule vanished !
Skipper Billy replied to Skipper Billy's topic in Discussions - Software
Sorted - it was a mixture of my incompetence, ineptitude and carelessness !!! -
Weird - but good news !!! Glad you got it sorted.

I am using NINA as my imaging prog and Stellarium as my 'view' of where I am pointing. Usually Stellarium shows a reticule of where my scope is pointing but last session it is has vanished! I don't know whether its a Stellarium issue or a NINA issue - the two progs are talking to each other as I can import RA and DEC from Stellarium to NINA framing. Any suggestions??? I haven't changed anything in Stellarium or NINA as far as I know.

Strange on - I would be interested to know what you find when you get it resolved.

Might be worth trying this Beta version - and the latest ASCOM https://www.atik-cameras.com/software-downloads/
