  1. @Rodd after seeing this, and feeling inspired, I've set up a little mosaic, Ha(1x1) in one scope and Oiii (binned 2x2) in the other. Currently underway on sub #1 lol
  2. I personally do it by eye too, I think you can get a better feel for what is in and out of focus.
  3. I've been looking at this camera, and although it works with one of my scopes, it wont work with my other scope due to an OAG and lack of back spacing. But what you are proposing is 100%. I think Dave was assuming you were trying to connect your adapter directly to the QHY268, which simply isnt possible. In your case you have 31.5mm to work with, so the 16.5mm filter holder and then take up the rest with spacers and adapters? Now you have got me thinking - I only ever really image Ha and Lum, so I could just buy a filter drawer system for the other scope, which is thinner than the EFW, and would free up 22-16.5mm = 5.5mm
  4. My first Bahtinov mask was made from the back of a cornflake box - genuinely - cut out using a scalpel. This lasted me for a few years. It was well wonky, but didnt affect focusing so I think you should be ok. Brendan do you mind explaining this? My newt is pretty hard to collimate, and I used my phone in a holder like you have done. However, it's only just possible to see the screen at a stretch, and working via TV would be ideal. (I use AnyDesk, but perhaps the principle will be the same?
  5. They replied today. Seems reputable. £300 for the service. Just debating it now. They do leave it with autofocus working etc
  6. With the good forecast, and a new sunspot, I brought my 'mobile solar white light imaging rig' to work (Lunt 6x30 white light binos and my phone, rested on the roof of my jeep for balance). The view was really nice visually despite only 6x magnification and I could see all three region. As an imager at heart I was very pleased to have picked up the ARs with the phone. Thanks! Adam. And the view from the Canarys for reference:
  7. That’s nice. I do love a great horsehead and this is superb. Mono works well with this object.
  8. Sorry, I don’t how I missed your reply last night. I use a white one and a grey one (!) together to get the right timing (>3.5s) on my camera and luminance filter. I can use just the white sheet ones own with my Ha filter. I would suggest the white 3mm sheet as the opaque one is quite see through and the white diffuses better.
  9. Want to do the same myself. This is a great start.
  10. Thanks Rodd. There is a newly fitted focuser, and some minor tweaks needed to the collimation, but overall the data is nice for 100 minutes. I'm going to buy a new mono CMOS IMX571 when they become available.
  11. I’ve emailed JTW but got no reply. Anywhere else out there I can contact?
  12. I took this on Sunday night, inspired by other images on here of the same region, not least Richards amazing mosaic. The weather has been really rubbish, and with a new level of unpredictability. Hopefully its just a phase. Using all but the worse subs, here I present 100 minutes of luminance data in 5 minute subs, using Tak Epsilon and QHY9 mono CCD, software - APT/APP/PS. Hope to add colour to this. Thanks Adam
  13. Thanks Adrian. Its hard not to get the Ha first, it just looks so much better than the other two! Although as well a) I dont have the other filters in this setup and b) I've also just sold the camera. 😂
  14. Thanks guys. Sorry its an AF Nikkor 180mm F2.8D IF-ED lens.
  15. Really great image. The new skies must be a real treat.
  16. I was sorting through a bunch of unprocessed images, and came across a few I had taken over the last few months with my now sold QHY9 mono. Taken with a 180mm lens and Baader 7nm Ha filter, these range from a single sub to 4 hours or just slightly less. Huge potential for sure, the processing is a bit rash, and calibration lacking in some, but nonetheless the objects are fascinating, and it shows you what F2.8 can do.
  17. No problem, I bought my acrylic off here, it just finishes it off (if that makes sense) and means you dont necessarily have to use the lowest setting on the panel. Opal Acrylic Plasticx Sheets (plasticsheets.com) White Perspex Sheet | Colour Code 069 (plasticsheets.com)
  18. I use the same cheap panel but put an A4 piece of opaque acrylic over it just to diffuse it slightly further. You wouldnt pick up the dots like that especially as you would be really out of the focal place, so I'd say that it is ok. You could rotate the panel between the first and second half of the set of flats if you so wished to eliminate any gradients.
