      AndyWB

Not from home - I live in the middle of town - but from this latitude, yes. And Viewing; I don't do astrophotography!

  3. 6mm Vixen SLV has arrived!

    1. AlexB67

      AlexB67

Ha, that would explain the weather forecast for this evening. Sat/sun look more hopeful. Good luck with it :)

Yes, I noticed Saturday - and who's got a wedding to go to? It's never clear on the right nights!

      Tzitzis

Very nice. It must be brilliant the way you feel now. No Messiers for me through a scope. Have seen the Pleiades, the Andromeda galaxy and M8 and M20 through binos though

  6. Completed the Messier Catalog last night with a very faint view of M83

  7. Darn it, a clear night and I had friends visiting. The 250px still awaits a first proper outing.

  8. Eeek! Ordered a Lunt 35 solar scope

Nice, good move, Probably my next scope on the list too when the time comes :)

  9. Gah! Unexpect windfall prompts aperture fever! It's a good complaint.

I'm thinking solid over flex - solid would fit across the back of my car still. But which one? SW? GSO? OO(!)?

    3. AlexB67

      AlexB67

For me that was easy as SW are the only ones to do the flex, otherwise a hard call, the skyquest 10 has an RDF already ( minor point) . Overall I found it a hard call IMO, you have time to ponder :)

Unless you go for one of the more expensive orion optics ones, better optics, more expensive.

  10. Good forecast for tonight.

Aye, it was rubbish here in the end too. Met Office were wrong!

  11. Had a look at Venus after sunset. A bit .. unimpressive. I might have been spoiled by Jupiter and Saturn

The flaming volcanos are there! Only they are hidden beneath a thick layer of opaque clouds made of sulfuric acid. :(

    3. nephilim

      nephilim

And the Deathstars are hidden inside the volcanoes & doubly protected with a cloaking device. :0)

  12. Hmm. Big night out in the dark before the working week - or early night ready for tomorrow night's date? Tricky.

      AndyWB

Well, she's interesting and pretty, so I tried to get as much beauty sleep as possible. I'll need it :)

  13. Hmm. Eyepiece case now too small if I put the RACI in it. What now?

    1. ronin

      ronin

Obvious: Bigger case, with enough expansion planned in for further future additions.

  14. Hmm. So my car won't power a hairdryer if the engine is off, and the sidelights can't be turned off. Hmm.

I may need to consider a proper dew heater...

    3. scarp15

      scarp15

I use a 12V 7ah battery and can connect the 12V hairdryer via an adapter (cigarette socket for hairdryer and clips for battery).

    4. AndyWB

      AndyWB

Hmm. Yes, I'm wondering; if I started building a leisure battery type thing, I'd be tempted to just get a secondary heater...

  15. I continue to love my Heritage 130. I know it's not a 250 - but it still offers some satisfying views.

      AlexB67

I expect also some people new to the hobby perhaps see the Heritage as a halfway house between a toy scope and a proper scope, because it is so small and compact. After all, it is actually less than 1 inch smaller compared in aperture compared to much bigger looking 6 inch sky-watcher DOB. I am glad I got this scope, it ain't no toy :D As bang for buck goes, I would think it must be hard to beat as an all-rounder, unless you are a lucky git like Jonathan and managed to get that 6 inch f...

  16. I saw the Beehive cluster with my eyes-only at the weekend! That's a new one for me.

  17. I saw the ISS nearly run into the moon.

  18. I wonder if there is something wrong with me that I want to keep electronics out of my astronomy?

      AndyWB

I wonder if that's why? I'm a software developer, so the last thing I want to do is fiddle with computers at home...

    4. emadmoussa

      emadmoussa

Yep, I'm tech free now and my asto life is much easier...

  19. I wondered why my 8mm was dim, but good on M57. Eventually I realised; neb. filter still on.

    1. emadmoussa

      emadmoussa

LOL...twice before I couldn't see anything then realized the scope cap was still on...

      'Cos of the weather forecast?

    4. emadmoussa

      emadmoussa

Well, long story...I bought a giro mount then when it arrived it was faulty and it's been returned and currently awaiting a replacement ffrom Explore Scientific. My NEQ6 is on a pillar, which I can't use in the field. And most importantly the weather forecast is not promising - so even if I manage to secure a tripod for the EQ6, I don't see why bother really.

  22. I've decided to call last night "Night of the Teapot". First good look at Sagittarius.

  23. I've just learnt about the Ursa Major Moving Group!

  24. Just ordered a refractor... turning to the dark side...
