  1. Afocal you use the webcam to capture what is showing in the eyepiece Prime focus you use the webcam where you've removed the webcam lens and fabricate the webcam too fit in the telescope focus tube where you would normally fit an eyepiece, in this way the telescope works like a large lens. What webcam have you got?
  2. Just a thought the honor you mention on argos says Android 14 but in the questions and answers I see that it doesn't have GPS, to those with an S50 does this matter do you think please?
  3. Sounds good, I'll do a wipe approach too. Currently rummaging for a suitable bit of plastic recycling I could use to make a washer for the stiff az.
  4. Are you going to wipe the grease away or use a solvent?
  5. That is quite old version of Android now. Perhaps might need to look at getting a newer mobile phone or tablet but perhaps could look at second hand and the seestar app needs Android 8 or up, so I'd look at something with Android 9 or up as a minimum to buy in some future legs, but I doubt devices of those age of release are getting security patches.
  6. Hope you have great enjoyment out of your S50, have fun with it
  7. I bought an M12 bar online to the length I wanted, was not too pricey
  8. I'm going to go in prepared with a sort of washer as a possible fix to reduce friction as I've sticky points where RA movement tightens. I can feel where when moving RA manually by hand with clutches off
  9. Maybe it's like a bit of swarf in there. I'm going to be doing my RA tuning at some point just still getting my starting position on tracking first. There are lots of videos on the inside.
  10. Which camera are you using? I like the grey scale too
  11. Welcome Imaging the planets is generally by video and processing the best frames with software. A static mount can be used if the whole planet is on the frame with video let it drift across the field of view. There's a member here doing this with an 8 inch telescope of a manual dobsonian mount
  12. If making a barn door I'd keep it 50mm or less. I could use my 40mm fine on a manual barn door anything longer tracking got worse
  13. I have the 40mm f2.8 pancake too and I find it needs stopping down to f4 ibetter for star shapes, through I do miss for Astro not having manual focus ability. It's a great walk around lens on my 1100d, nice size too. The 85mmm f1.8 has strong chromatic aberration making is not so great for astro, I've tried mine. The nifty filthy does come up second hand quite often, not sure if it is manual or fly-by-wire.
  14. I was on 4 it was great but new mobile 4 won't work on so had to change to 7
  15. My gripe is with skysafari 7 plus not finding the mount to connect too
  16. I think for imaging the 80ED is pushing too heavy and big, my concern for visual use would be is the telescope tube too long. I would look for others users who have actually used the 80ED on the az-gti before committing to getting one
  17. I also have found that sky safari 7plus would not connect to the az-gti using Android 14. I'm just working around it and will try again after any next updates.
  18. When I use other programs on Windows that go through ascom I have to connect in a certain order. 1- connect pc wifi telescope was facing north level and horizontal (I use mount in altaz mode), turn on az-gti 2- connect mobile wifi 3- start mobile synscan pro app and connect I did a one star alignment 4- start ascom device hub and connect 5- start connecting what ever you use and hopefully it'll work for you
  19. Thank you for the newsletters Steve and the great articles on your website I've read, what ever is next all the best
  20. perhaps look at what version is the firmware and version of mobile app using
  21. You had a nice high location to see that looking at your images
  22. Thanks for sharing your all sky, it was good to see your time, caught it here at 6:30-6:31 but that was more to do with when went outside and when came back in, looks like that was by fluke the best time.
