  1. I have the 40mm f2.8 pancake too and I find it needs stopping down to f4 ibetter for star shapes, through I do miss for Astro not having manual focus ability. It's a great walk around lens on my 1100d, nice size too. The 85mmm f1.8 has strong chromatic aberration making is not so great for astro, I've tried mine. The nifty filthy does come up second hand quite often, not sure if it is manual or fly-by-wire.
  2. I was on 4 it was great but new mobile 4 won't work on so had to change to 7
  3. My gripe is with skysafari 7 plus not finding the mount to connect too
  4. I think for imaging the 80ED is pushing too heavy and big, my concern for visual use would be is the telescope tube too long. I would look for others users who have actually used the 80ED on the az-gti before committing to getting one
  5. I also have found that sky safari 7plus would not connect to the az-gti using Android 14. I'm just working around it and will try again after any next updates.
  6. When I use other programs on Windows that go through ascom I have to connect in a certain order. 1- connect pc wifi telescope was facing north level and horizontal (I use mount in altaz mode), turn on az-gti 2- connect mobile wifi 3- start mobile synscan pro app and connect I did a one star alignment 4- start ascom device hub and connect 5- start connecting what ever you use and hopefully it'll work for you
  7. Thank you for the newsletters Steve and the great articles on your website I've read, what ever is next all the best
  8. perhaps look at what version is the firmware and version of mobile app using
  9. You had a nice high location to see that looking at your images
  10. Thanks for sharing your all sky, it was good to see your time, caught it here at 6:30-6:31 but that was more to do with when went outside and when came back in, looks like that was by fluke the best time.
  11. sharpcap pro has sharpsolve build in the platesolving works quite well on my test data
  12. in altaz I use only level and point north horizontal then turn on. I think if tracking is enabled it will track but there'll be drift as it's not aligned, this was how the virtuoso mount worked and I think the az-gti is likely similar, I might try this next time using the mount
  13. APT DC is a great app for seeing when Astro dark starts and what % illumination the Moon is
  14. The Moon was opposite side to this and the mauve was eye visible, right down South too 6:31pm
  15. Only seen after looking at images taken and this bit is taken facing NE and the last image taken and it's not obvious on the others
  16. Is this Steve? 6:43pm Images realized for web Meant to add the mauve was visible naked eye
  17. Your lovely shots give me hope this just captured it too, 6:31pm right down south with a mobile
  18. I have a synscan dongle and use it with two different mounts but I'm not understanding your question? I'll see if I can find the build your own thread
  19. If you undo the altitude clutch will the altitude move by hand turning it
  20. very rusty, a quick process, hope my data will be as nice
  21. I enjoyed using v4 plus but I'm not liking v7 the time change ui is not as usable As a side comment I like the skymap feature in skyeye pro
  22. a simple but steady tripod too would also be useful and if you can practice before you go
  23. That's really good for sharing in the moment I'm loving the sharpsolve function
