Might be worth doing a general search on EEA with 6SE to see what's being achieved, your telescope will be good for Moon and planets anyway.

EEA is live visual observing in that you look at a screen while the image of what you are looking at dynamically builds so brings further life to the smudge and may resolve shape and colour. But yes it is either eyepiece in the focuser or camera. I was only thinking about if you find your bortle sky hard work on DSO what else might extend your hobby

Talking cameras and electronically enhanced astronomy EEA which might be an option to look into for seeing more in your back yard, the ASI585MC appears popular due to it's capacity and bit bigger chip then a straight planetary camera.

I wouldn't change anything in your next test other than ensure you have removed both the filters discovered to have been fitted at the same time when you got the Christmas tree shaped stars. I'd get a clear control test in before evaluating any other change.

it might be an idea to test your camera now on a static tripod. Face east or west keeping altitude reasonably low take a single shot with your widest lens on a dark clear night. Taking your widest lenses 600/28 gives roughly 21 seconds before startrails. Take an image Turn off in camera noise suppression if you can Take another shot Compare images to see what impact in camera noise suppression has on the stars, you may find some have disappeared, this may be acceptable for you.

A wobbly tripod is more stable when it's used not fully extended, sitting to view is often quite comfortable and to be patient to see those moments of detail. Jupiter can be great for observing but is usually being there in the moment of clarity between Jupiter being jiggly again.

Paintshop pro is another similar to photo elements, but I also often use GIMP as well. As GIMP is free there is nothing lost in installing it and having a go. Paint.NET is free and might be similar too. I've not used it
