How to use a cheshire collimating eyepiece
wookie1965 replied to legoalan's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I had a Cheshire sight tube not the "premium" and not from FLO worked really well on my 8" reflector after I had flocked it. I gave it to the bloke I sold the scope to. -

You can do it in the dark just shine a red torch at the shiny part on the Cheshire very easy. -

I have a EQ5 with a rather heavy 5" frac I have got round this getting a EQ6 tripod getting a adaptor plate (https://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/geoptik-heq5-tripod-adaptor-for-eq6-2-tripods.html) so my EQ5 mount fits really sturdy now. -

Colour contrasting double stars
wookie1965 replied to MylesGibson's topic in Observing and Imaging Double and Variable Stars
I have a few just not sure if they will post on here. Tried before and the links take you to my files, I need to figure out how to upload maybe to Dropbox. -
Very strange totally different, I wanted to fit a dual focuser but I could not find anything about doing it. Only one person had changed the focuser and by what he said it was a nightmare.

Colour contrasting double stars

I have a txt file of over a hundred of the most beautiful double stars if anyone is interested. -
I give mine a good clean and used a tiny bit of grease on those runners, I found if you adjust both knobs together you dont have to tighten the top one that hard and still have a smooth action. A friend on here made this bigger knob brilliant for fine focusing maybe something to think about for the future.

Yes they do I have adjusted mine on my Tal 100rs, as I have put a 2" diagonal in which was heavier.

I did try the council again I got a surly bloke who said as long as the light does not shine on the second floor they will do nothing. I then wrote to my elected councillor who said he would look into it and never got back to me. The yard is all flagged supposed to be a carport for the property so no chance of planting any trees no soil just clay any way, we have flowers in pots because of that apart from a couple of roses on the front. That picture is from the bed room we have had to buy blackout blinds its ridiculous.

Well it looks like you have the nose piece for the diagonal missing, you can still use the scope looking straight through but going to be awkward. Your going have to look for a 2" diagonal now something like this if money is tight there are more expensive ones but this will easily do the job.https://www.firstlightoptics.com/diagonals/skywatcher-90-erecting-prism.html Let me know if you need a 2-1.25mm adapter something like this I will send you one. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/adapters/baader-2-to-125-reducer-adapter.html

A Double star challenge Epsilon Lyrae.
wookie1965 replied to SiriusB's topic in Getting Started With Observing
Not had a chance try with my 5" yet I know I easily split them both in the Tal but cannot for the life of me remember what eyepiece I used, I must write this stuff down. -
To be honest I posted to see if anyone had any advice (Nothing illegal) 😀

This is what I have to contend with only its local council so nothing I can do, I did ask for a shield to be put up and they did this is the result so the shield was a waste of space.

New EQ5 pro frustration setup
wookie1965 replied to si717's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I had to have mine re engineered because of the latitude bolts from a good friend on here did a marvellous job polar aligning now is like butter. Still had trouble so sent it to Rother Valley optics who serviced it now runs like a dream. -

Very strange it does sound like the motors are going the wrong way I wonder if polarity is the wrong way round not sure whether that would blow the board, it's definitely tip positive but sounds like yours is not very strange. Yes try a different power source see how that goes. -

My routine is tripod out levelled mount on polar aligned I do not put Polaris in the cross I use the circle around it like a clock. Synscaninit shows you position e.g 9 o'clock I will then position Polaris on the ring at the 9pm position. Put weights and scope on scope up weights down (park position) check Polaris position again sometimes needs a tweak. switch on have Synscaninit app running on phone check my coordinates, next time zone 00:00 date month day and year, time set it exactly, daylight saving yes for this time of year press enter check p.scope maybe just out and hour angle again maybe just out. Chose a star about halfway up the sky if you can see Ursa major use Dubhe if your doing 2 star use Deneb its in a good position. See how that goes, people on here can tell you ive had loads of trouble with my EQ5 now I do the same routine and I use a 10 amp cctv power pack as mine was losing power causing problems. good luck stay patient check and double check everything especially daylight savings and month day year easy done I have done it several times. Do you let it finish going to first star just thinking it maybe doing a meridian flip to get the star in the scope.
