With all this Sun the last few days I'm having to try really hard not to press the trigger on a new ZWO ASI 178MM for solar imaging

For widefield with that camera, its best to use a fast, short focal length lens (135 or 200mm). I used the Samyang 135 for the above image, exposure time was just 40x120s (with hints of IFN when heavily stretched).
For DSO work, its probably worth checking whether your optics have enough aperture to give a low enough rayleigh limit to suit the pixel size (though not important for planetary/solar).
