  1. The limit of the Skytee II seems to be quoted at either 10kg or 15kg, depending on which vendors website you read. FLO's is more conservative, probably sensibly. With the stock clamps it's about 1kg ! Interesting to think that Meade used to sell the the 10 inch SN on the LXD55 mount and an alloy tripod. Makes you wonder if anyone ever got a decent view or image through one of those setups
  2. I found this pic of an older Stellarvue 130 EDT which looks identical to the objective on the one that you have pictured:
  3. I was just being honest Andrew - hope that is OK ?
  4. I can't recall the diameter of the counterweight bar on the NEQ6 but if it is 20mm then the EQ3 counterweights will fit: https://www.firstlightoptics.com/sky-watcher-mount-accessories/skywatcher-counterweight.html
  5. Honest opinion needed here Stu: - Do you think I was imagining splitting Zeta Herc when I first reported it with my ED120 back in 2013 when the pair were closer ? - Do my frequent reports of splitting Sirus with my 12 inch dob and my 130mm refractor seem plausible ? I'm starting to doubt my observations currently
  6. The one that created meteor crater could have been 50 metres across they reckon. An iron one too.
  7. My last TAL 100 cost around that much. That was a 100 RT, the same as is being sold on Gumtree. They stopped doing the wooden "coffins" when they moved to the plastic dew shield, green lens coatings and better focuser I think.
  8. I used to have one just like that. The first version. Limited focuser travel and no 2 inch option but superb objective and those wonderful purple coatings. I've owned a couple and I can't really justify another, otherwise ......
  9. I agree. Get on an use the scope as soon as the clouds clear
  10. Is it because a quality objective lens puts a very high % of the energy into the airy disk and very little elsewhere ?
  11. Thanks for the offer. I might have been interested last year but I managed to get a T-Rex mount for my 130mm F/9.2 triplet refractor in February and that does the job excellently as well as having slow motion controls.
  12. Not really. Personally I was a little disappointed in the SSW's and found them rather awkward to use as I said in my review.
  13. That is a really good deal. The AzMaxload is more than twice as much as that to buy new in it's basic form: https://www.apm-telescopes.de/en/mounts--tripods/alt-azimuth-mounts/apm-azmaxload-mount-single-view-version I have only ever seen one used one for sale here in the UK in the past few years. The asking price was a lot higher than the one that you were offered.
  14. I don't think they do a Luminos 5mm ? I've used the SSW's and the SLV's and they are pretty good. Very different eyepieces though: Both these Vixen ranges would be a touch better than the Celestron X-Cel LX I suspect although the ED120 is not too fussy over eyepieces. I very much enjoy the Pentax XW 5mm in my ED120 but that is definitely in the SSW price zone.
  15. That is the best time to view the planets - where there is still some light left in the sky
  16. My earlier point was that's what top grade optics can do. More "run of the mill" optics do seem to reach their useful limits at lower magnifications, even if the seeing conditions are good.
  17. Please folks - no suggestions of anything illegal Many thanks
  18. From some reports I read on forums, apparently not
  19. My point was serious - you really can tell the difference in their disk sizes with some practice and it does not take a hugely powerful scope to do this. I've yet to see any markings on the Galilean moons but I know that one or two observers on this forum have see vague details on Ganymede's disk.
  20. Top quality optics = top quality high magnification performance, when the seeing allows. It's not rocket science
  21. Now the mount issue is decided, it would probably be better to start another thread to discuss the differences between the 150 and 200 dobsonians, accessories etc, etc
