  1. A guess - but if in good condition around GBP 375
  2. I compared an 8” Newtonian to a C8 a few years ago..... https://stargazerslounge.com/topic/134458-jupiter-1st-feb-2012-c8-v-8-newt/
  3. It’s a Good idea to check out your club members 10” Dobsonian πŸ‘ Yes as you say a Newtonian will cool down faster than an SCT due to active cooling and will also continue to closely match dropping temperatures during the evening better.
  4. Mars - around October 2020 Jupiter and Saturn - 2022 onwards
  5. @Wavseeker You have a lot of conflicting requirements that no one scope will satisfy. Whilst they are good scopes a C6 evo will not show anywhere near the views an orion xx10/12 will. I would suggest that for now you look for a scope that for a small financial outlay will be portable and easy to use whilst allowing you to build viewing experience so you can then fine tune your decision for what you want to do next....... https://www.firstlightoptics.com/dobsonians/skywatcher-heritage-130p-flextube.html
  6. Fetch the rope boys, we got ourselves an imager πŸ˜‚
  7. Leica ASPH zoom with/without x2.6 glass path corrector giving 3.4 to 17.8mm
  8. Just my luck - scope set up, sky is cloudy πŸ™„
  9. Another chance to see the GRS plus Io and its shadow transiting tonight..... Plus a meteor shower πŸ‘
  10. Jupiter and Saturn are very low so they are going to be affected by the depth of atmosphere you are looking through, plus at this time of year heat issues. Cooling is essential for best results as is collimation - which needs to be spot on with an SCT. To check collimation make sure the scope is well cooled then centralise a high star in your eyepiece at around x200. Find best focus and then assess collimation and adjust if required. Thats all you can do yourself, the results may still be poor so it will be awaiting game until the planets get higher....
  11. I would suggest you go to your local astro group and take a look at what they have.
  12. @Andrew Harding Have you considered an 8” Orion Optics dobsonian - the OTA and base are much lighter then the equivalent Skywatcher ? The C8 would be the next best option but I would suspect the 8” OO Dobsonian will outperform it.
  13. There you go πŸ‘ So, Did you buy one πŸ€”πŸ€”πŸ˜€
  14. Aaah - didn’t realise you wanted to image. I’m surprised your 150mm Newt is not performing as you would like - if fully cooled and well collimated they are usually quite good. I am no imaging expert but I think someone will come along who is ......
  15. Your current 150mm Newtonian is a very capable scope. What are you looking for in a Mak or SCT over the Newt ?
  16. Good work πŸ‘ Have you had chance to view Jupiter with it ? If so what was your impression of it’s performance ?
  17. Clear now and more stable NEB looking quite dark with some irregularity
  18. Can see io now - just I think i see io’s shadow in the NEB above and to the left of the GRS ???
