Same reason the sky is blue-shorter wavelengths (blue) are scattered more than longer ones (red), so bad seeing affects blue more than red.

Aha!

A while back I commented on a handful of nice warm/red stars in the Double Cluster and how one in particular (left of center, through a Newt') always seems clear, steady and sharp. I guess your explain also explains how it remains so sharp and still.

Another 'tip' is if you're imaging the Moon in black and white mode, use a red filter and adjust the red out afterwards. You should get a better image for the reasons mentioned above.
