NGC 7008 - Planetary in Cygnus

I saw a picture of this in a magazine a few months ago and had to give it a go. It's reasonably big for a planetary but unfortunatly that still doesn't make it very big (98x75 arc seconds).

This was taken last week in the couple of hours between the sun setting and the moon rising. I did the red filter last and this suffered a bit from the moon and had to be pushed a bit which is why the stars have ended up a bit red?

Apparently some of the 'stars' within the nebula areactually knots within the nebula!

LRGB exposure was 55:24:24:24 with my LX90LNT/EQ6 and H9 camera.

Thanks for looking,

Rich.

Thanks for the comments. The object is also listed as object 103 in Steve O'Meara's 'Hidden Treasures' book (a good place for finding new stuff)

This is the pic with the jpeg quality improved, seems to preserve the detail a bit better than on the first.

Edit- Now I've posted it, it looks very similar:icon_scratch:

Cheers,

Rich.

  • 10 months later...

Great to see someone have a go at this, it is called The Fetus Nebula and has gorgeous inner red detail, unfortunately I never got round to it but it is a lovely object.
