Another Jupiter

This one surprised me somewhat as I was imaging in a gap in the jetstream. An aircraft (jet), passed just south of the planet half way through the green channel on the middle of the run too. Doesn't seem to have messed things up too much though. This is a 3 RGB run. I was somewhat lucky, because it rained here about an hour after imaging

That’s superb Harvey, smooth as cream with lots of detail.

It’s one of the things I love about planetary vs DSO imaging, you only need a fairly brief gap, in good seeing to get what you need for an excellent image.

You are right about that. I missed the night before which was clear all night. I saw it was clear last night so opened up the obsy. The rain came in within an hour of me closing it. I grabbed about 5 RGB runs and that was it. I'm glad I have finally found the focusing offsets with the various filters, it took some time to perfect.

I went out a bit later last night with fog thickening. The seeing looked good, but I was too late as the fog rapidly turned to cloud.

Was that with the 290MM, I haven’t used mine for over a year now, I just go with the 462MC.

No, it was with the QHY 5111678 mono. Dare I say it but it was oversampled at around F14, so over the 5X pixel size recommended. (7 times). I always find on nights of decent seeing I can get higher levels of detail doing this. Detail covers more pixels I spose

Beautiful image! Easy on the eye. I like lucky imaging :)

Reggie

Many thanks Reggie. I was really lucky to get these conditions in the narrow window that was had, so I know what you mean! 🙂

Superb image Harvey. we all need a bit of luck, but its skill that delivers images like this when "luck" is on our side occasionally. As i have said before i don't like the term "lucky imaging" luck plays a small role in images like this in my opinion 🙂

Thanks Pete. Agreed, you spend a lot more time processing than capturing the data, although the capture needs to be bang on to bring out the best results, - particularly in the UK
