The 450d is a much better camera for astro' use.

Forget the 300d, its too old, but then even the 400d is past its sell by date....

The EOS 300D has 6.1mega pixels , the 400 has 10.1.mp. Neither has liveview or video. I think neither are supported under w10 and the 300d requires extra cables to link to APT.  The 450d should be the one to look for.

I'd go with the wait, but keep an eye out for a 600d or similar....

I too would opt for the 450D, it is well supported by applications like APT and BYEOS and has liveview which is pretty much vital for AP. Have a look on the WEX or MPB photographic sites if you want a bargain.

Definitely the right move. Later models often come up cheaply and are far better- as several have mentioned the 450d is big step forward from the 400d.
