How to properly report an EBay Item

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I would like some advice from the collective as to the best way to report an item listing on EBay.

I happened to be browsing the site and came across this listing

Item No 302502895619

https://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-25-inch-Telescope-Optical-Solar-Sun-Filter-Inch-Screw-Telescope-Astronomic-Pro-/302502895619

for a "1.25inches 31.7mm Astronomic Telescope Optical Solar Sun Filter"

This basically an eyepiece end solar filter. It even states in the description that you should use it for no longer than 15secs and there is a risk of it cracking ?

I have never reported an item before and found the possible reasons given for reporting an item to be very limited. I was not given the opportunity to enter any txt pertaining to my reason for reporting the item.

I have reported the item, just not sure I have done it correctly.

These filters can be lethal to eyesight and should not be used under any circumstances!!

Thanks in advance.

Whenever I've done it, normally for fraudulent listings, you just select from three different drop down boxes to indicate why you are reporting it. That is from a smart phone mind you. I've never had the opportunity to put any text in so I suspect you have done it correctly :)

Hi Stu,

Yes, you are right, there are three drop-down boxes. Most of the options in each didn't really come close to what I wanted / expected to see. I ended up reporting it as being hazardous/ restricted materials. We shall see.

The vendor was certainly being honest in their description. It is the consequences of using the item I am concerned about.

I had not seen one of these EP end filters in a long time and thought they had actually disappeared, obviously not ?

You can report it as a Hazardous item. Select "Report item" then select "Prohibited and Restricted item" in the first drop-down, "Hazardous Material" in the second and "Other Hazardous Material" in the third.

Thanks, that is exactly what I did.

It is just not as intuitive as I thought it might have been.

I hope it has the desired effect.

The seller in the link above has a number of separate listings for the same item at differing prices.  There is also a different seller here:  https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-25-inch-Telescope-Optical-Solar-Sun-Filter-Inch-Screw-Telescope-Astronomic-1pc/332510402578?_trkparms=aid%3D555018%26algo%3DPL.SIM%26ao%3D2%26asc%3D49138%26meid%3D8411848467fb490f9dc99583a7039290%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D2%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D302502895619&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851

Then there are these - aimed at kids (note the word 'toy') https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3pcs-set-Plastic-Solar-Eclipse-Glasses-Viewing-Sun-Glasses-Toy-August-21st-Pro-/112651819482 being sold by a seller who also sells an adapter which could be used with the other filters .  They are also selling this version, which may/may not be OK since it doesn't stay which CE and ISO apply https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/5pcs-Solar-Eclipse-Glasses-Galaxy-Edition-CE-and-ISO-Viewing-August-21st-/112654934579 they also do the screw on filters https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-25-inch-Telescope-Optical-Solar-Sun-Filter-Inch-Screw-Astronomic-Telescope-/112623881890 then there are these which claim to be Baader filmed.  Still I suppose if you are willing to buy from Shanghai........

Reporting them looks to be a full time job.

Not clear what is suggested with "use Baader film and the glass filter at the same time" means. If the film is attached to the filter it would burn through immediately if placed in front of the glass filter and if the film was placed behind the glass filter or even over the front objective there would be zero final transmission.
