Seriously though, that's impressive. I struggle to understand how on earth they can process data from scopes so far apart and tease out detail to make a 2D image. I wonder how they do it.

Looks vaguely like Antares might NOT be Pole-on towards us!?!
Always reassuring if/when it goes Supernova perhaps tho'? An
unlikely "bucket list" -  I'd love to see all/more stars like this!

It is astonishing but I seem to remember similar images of Betelgeuse being published some years ago.

I think the most interesting thing here is not the pic but the measurement of velocities.  They say it's not convection. Maybe really big prominences or mass ejections?

Remarkable... Although I agree with Paul M that it's very similar to Betelgeuse. Perhaps the distance limits the resolution and these red super giants blur into a similar result when lucky imaging.
