Question about astronomik clip in filter

Recommended Posts

Hi guys.

I wanna try and take some photos of the night sky with my eos 700d and the18-55 lens that came with the camera and I was wondering if I can use the astronomik clip in filter with the lens. I haven't tried it as I'm a bit worried of scratching the filter and that's  why I thought of asking here first.

Yes if it is an EF-S fitment lens, which I think it might be, it wont work with the clip in filters.  The EF-S lenses have a plastic protrusion at the rear of the lens (like the pic below) which fouls the filter.

The EF-S lenses have a white square on the body and the EF lenses have a red square.

That's correct, you can use a Canon EF-type lens or equivalent which is shorter at the back is therefore not obstructed by the filter but not the EFS-type lenses like the 18-55mm kit lens which is too long.

Yes you can use the efs lens 18-55mm if you cut the small protruding bit off with a hacksaw.  It doesn't affect the functioning of the lens.

....Might affect the resale value
