History of binaries.

Fascinating stuff; I've not read the article yet, but the whole history of binary observations (and theory) is very interesting. I found a name from the early 1800s in a county archives the other side of the country and there are documents of his observations and theories of binary stars; he's not a name I've found anywhere else so this is on my list of things to research further when I get the time.

Thank you.

James

John Michell was a very interesting figure in the history of astronomy, and for me at least, deserves wider recognition.

There's a good biography of Michell which is an enjoyable read: Russell McCormmach - Weighing the Stars, the Reverend John Michell  of Thornhill, published by Springer in 2012.
