Skywatcher AZ-EQ6 and C14

I see some people are using a C11 on the smaller AZ-EQ5 and wondered for visual use only would it be possible to mount a C14 on the larger AZ-EQ6?

20kg's plus eyepiece, diagonal, finder etc? Madness?

Madness is a relative term

I've just ordered a 12" F4 Dob to hang off my AZ-EQ6 and if that goes well a C14 was my next potential acquisition. I sold my CPC1100 to pay for the AZ but would like another large SCT in the longer term as I really enjoyed the views.

I think the C14 will definitely be pushing the envelope on the AZ but with it being very short compared with some other styles of scopes it will probably cope. A C11 might be a bit more sensible, but we don't want too much of that spoiling our fun do we!

Given that I used to put an 18 to 20kg Vixen 150ED f9 on an AZEQ6, which is much longer, I reckon you would get away with it. A motor focuser would be a sensible addition to remove the need to touch the scope. Would be pretty cool I reckon! ?

I communicated with FLO about putting a C14 on an AZEQ6 about two years ago and we agreed for planetary imaging it would be OK as lon as well balanced. I've yet to find a second hand C14 I can afford.

interesting. I've seen a picture with one on so it might be doable. Still, I really wouldn't be surprised if in reality the vibration of wind, movement and focusing will really hamper.

C14 HD is ordered so I'll be purchasing an AZ-EQ 6. Will hopefully find the mount copes ok for purely visual. Shame Celestron don't do an equivalent though as I'm keen to use the star sense kit I have. The skywatcher version is awfully over priced.

still, looking forward to the big cat arriving :)

Exciting! Do let us know how it all goes and share some photos. The worry is it will make us all want one even more.

If you can afford a brand new C14HD then I'm surprised the cost of the mount worries you lol :)

Yeah but who wants a 12" scope when you can afford 14" one ;)

Fare comment. £3.8k for an extra 2" is got to be a bargain.  Nice to have loads of dosh. Should be able to see loads more with a 14" than a 12" scope. .

What's the cool down time for a 14" SCT if it's not kept close to outside temperature ?. Must be several hours I'd have thought ?

Amazing looking rig though - hope it works out :icon_biggrin:

Total insanity (in a good way of course :) )

I reckon you will have some fun with that, but don;t be surprised to get a visit from armed police if you live anywhere near an airport, look like a SAM launcher!

Once mounted and balanced the scope and mount work really well. Seeing hasn't been anywhere near good enough yet though.

Are you still using the c14 on the mount? Have you tried guided AP in the meantime?
