November 18, 2015: Lovely line-up of planets

Stormy weather here but I did manage to see the lovely line-up of Venus, Mars, and Jupiter this morning. Such a long, straight line of planets somehow brings home to you your place in the solar system

Yes it was lovely this morning. Amazing how bright Venus is at present.

Set my alarm for 4am to go view the planets in the early morning sky. Sadly, I just switched it off and then fell back off to sleep. Woke back up at 7am, but was too late by then! <sigh!>

Spectacular here too - first clear weather for a long time. Odd seeing though (60 mph winds perhaps?). I tried a quick look at Mars and Jupe and it was as though all detail was washed out, and nearby stars expanded to small circles with no diffraction rings. Bit like looking through a newtonian with poor optics.......

Whoops. I was so absorbed with my first ever view of clouds and bands on Jupiter and of the half disk of Venus that it didn't even occur to me to look for Mars! What I did see was fantastic though!

The Planetary line up is pretty spectacular at the moment,and there's still some highly photogenic possibilities ,including the crescent Moon in conjunction with the Planets, to come.

 Had a quick flick though  the December ed. of 'AN',that arrived yesterday.

 There's the usual gallery of reader's images,and whilst I greatly admire the skills of the contributors with their incredible views of DSO's,as I usually find,it's the widefield shots that I particularly enjoy.

 Sometimes it's nice to ditch all of the optical technology at our disposal these days,and just enjoy the bigger picture!

Me too! First view due to never ending clouds!

I was packing the scope up and noticed that Jupiter had company. A lovely naked eye sight after a cloud dodging session.

Looking promising for tomorrow, might have to do a little planetary imaging and meteor spotting.
