New Hubble Image of Andromeda - 1.5 Billion Pixels

Recommended Posts

When I see images like that it also makes me think of our own Galaxy, and how little of it we actually see. Even in our small neck of the woods there are wonders to behold, as we see in Hubble (Or even our own) images. What else is out there that we cannot see because it is obscured?

Now I know the true meaning of mind-boggling.

I need to get some frame of reference for what I'm looking at, some idea of scale, if that's at all possible.  Is most of it stars, or dust, or what?

More reading needed!

(I saw a slideshow of images demonstrating how big the universe is - the one with North America superimposed on Jupiter - and that helped).
