blinky
This is called the beehive cluster, have no idea why as I cannot see any resemblance 44X45secs and 5 darks, taken (as always) with my trusty DSI(click to enlarge)
MartinB
Nice to see the Beehive again. A couple of years ago Saturn was passing by so we had a few pictures of this cluster. Some nice orange stars in there. The stars look a little saturated, have you been using the right hand levels slider?

LostNSpace
I have taken many an image on this one Blinky, but only widefield shots so the cluster is only thumbnail size in the image......Dont know how it came by the nickname of the Beehive though......Nice capture though especially in this weather.......Mark

Sam
I think the Beehive is a very nice cluster - on the same level as Pleiades I reckon - and that's a very nice pic - well done.

barkis
Nice Pic. Craig. You are really gathering pace with your imaging.Always a pleasure seeing clusters be they Globular or open. M44 is particularly nice in binoculars, as is the Pleiades. As well as The Beehive, it has other descriptive names. Praesape, The Manger, All derived from Arabic I think. Ron. themos
Praesepe is Latin for cradle, according to Brittanica.
ianporter13
Craig,Nice image, I think it's meant to resemble bees swarming round a hive.maybe this will help to visualise it.Ian

radioactive
Good job done Craig I have tried this myself in the past when we had a bit of clear sky can't think how long back that was I had trouble with the target area being too big for how I had things set up I found. Good image mate from a very Leeds
LostNSpace
Praesepe is Latin for cradle, according to Brittanica.Yes Themos praesepe latin for Cradle or Manger......If you do a dot to dot on the brightest stars in this OC, the white and red giants then you have something that resembles a cradle, as seen in wiki here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Messier_object_044.jpg
lunator
CraigM44 is one of my fav objects. It looks best in binos or an RFT. My F6 Newt struggles to get the whole cluster in the FOV.You have captured some different star colours there. CheersIan
