All single shots with no processing, 30 second subs at ISO 800 taken 23/7/2012

Here is my first DSO, M31.

Its maybe more of a widefield shot, but the intention was to capture M31 with EOS550d using a 50mm fixed lens. 21 x 5s lights, 10 darks, 4 flats and 1 bias. Processed with Canon DPP and stacked in DSS.

It produced a TIFF 100MB! But I compressed that so it could be uploaded to flickr.

Hi all...after years observing only and learning from a friend of mine (space engineer!) about astronomy and photography I decided to go with DSO astrophotography myself...this is the classic M13, taken on 31/7/2012 with a SkyWatcher ST 102mm (500 f/5) AZ GoTo and my Nikon d80 attached at prime focus...20 subs ISO 1000 (15 sec. each) plus 5 darks, stacked and elaborated using Nebulosity 3 (only bw for now). I also used a Light Pollution Filter.

No guiding and a quite 'on the fly' alignment due to incoming clouds..I'll have to try it again with a more proper alignment and some PAE around the part of the sky I'm pointing to, maybe I'll be able to get longer exposures with less ISO.

Also it's somehow out of focus I'll need to tweak it connecting the camera to the computer on the bigger screen to tweak focus...I fitted the 'auto' focus so hopefully I'll get to a more perfect focus on the mac screen.

I need to understand better about colours but I'll try tomorrow going again through these m13 and working on colours as well!

Here another attempt from the same night of M13 above...this was a bit more difficult, there are not many details on M81 but it's possible to see NGC3077 and some colours...these are 20 subs 15 sec at ISO1250 plus 5 darks, SkyWatcher ST 102mm (500 f/5) with SW LPF and Nikon D80, not guided, stacked in Nebulosity and worked then in Photoshop.

Suggestions accepted, I want to do better next time!

M31, taken at a very nice observing site in the Negev desert a bit nort-west of Mitzpe Ramon.

This is a pic from last Friday, my first attempt at prime focus photography, taken with a canon 300D through a SkyWatcher 150P Newtonian on a HEQ5-Pro mount.

The polar alignment wasn't spot on so the tracking isn't quite good and startrails are easily visible, but all in all I'm pleased with this as a first shot.

The image was stacked from 10 light frames and 2 darks. 30sec exposure each with iso 1600.

Here are my first DSO's, figure I got to show them somewhere, finally All images are taken with a Canon 1100D (unmodded), Celestron Omni XLT 150 scope on a CG4 mount. Stacked in DSS and processed in Photoshop. No further optics were used and everything is unguided. Even though these are my first attempts, criticism are more than welcome!

Oh well, not my intention! These are all taken in sequence over the past year - but, Andromeda is the very first one, december 2011!

Yep, this was it. March, this year. 30s at ISO 1600, Canon EOS 450D directly through a Celestron Nexstar 4SE (100mm)

Really nice for such short exposures and unguided. My only suggestion would be to get more data if you can. Not easy to do without an EQ mount though.

Haha, as I wrote in the next post, Andromeda was my first one. But yeah, I think I got lucky!

Get out there and practice, it will be rewarding after a while!

After a few teething problems, I'm finally underway, may I present, my first images:

All taken with 20x15s at ISO3200. No darks or anything yet. Just wanted to play about with stacking to get the hang of this.
