Orion Nebula with emphasis on the dust

Tonight's experiment ( cut short by the clouds rolling in ) was to take yet another image of M42 (yes I know it is too popular but then it is beautiful too - which is why it is so popular!) but this time trying to capture the lovely brown dust surrounding this object.

25 X 200 seconds using my SXVF-H9C and 80mm ED Refractor. I really wanted another hour and then some 30 second subs for the Trapezium region but it wasn't to be!

Thats a beauty Steve ,do like that , super processing as well , must have ago at that , and look at the core ,is that a layered image Steve .

Hi Roger, yes, the Trapezium region had to be layered in from the same data as the clouds stopped me from taking the short exposure subs for this area.

That is one gorgeous M42 Steve, I really like the envelopes of

different shades of nebulosity. It's almost 3 dimensional.

That's stunning Steve, very smooth 16 bittery! the trapezium looks spot on to me. If it isn't saturated I don't know as you would benefit from the shorter subs. Looks perfect

Thank you for your encouragement folks. The Orion Nebula is a very popular object and for good reason but it is amazing just how many different interpretations of it you see on the forums. I guess that is just one of the many pleasures of astro-imaging, there is no de facto standard that we need to work to and I love to see these variations and it's not just colouring and contrast but how far you zoom in as well as this is almost two complete subjects on it's own - the whole object or just the Trapezium area!
