Well who saw last night coming - tonight also looks like a good chance aswel but its now noticeable how light it is later on in the evening- the early dark nights are well behind us now.

Again though just when I thought it would happen we just don't go past 9 nights without a chance to observe- same thing again last night on what would have been the 9th consecutive night of non observing chances a window opens up for clear sky - its odd but its a fact in S Wales at least.

I saw a headline on Yahoo that the UK Met Office is predicting a mini heatwave = end of April stright through until the beginning of June- presumably this would mean some clear skies aswel so good news for those of you who are not packing the scopes away this spring.

Look out for Wednesday aswel- Mars should be at its closest point to the Earth for the last 6 years and easily visible using the moon as your guide.

Hello Steve. Do you track the year too date weather against 2013? Just wondered if you can tell how the first 4 months of this year compare to same point last year.

I think I've only managed to get out twice in the back garden since Christmas. Pretty depressing really....

Not really- only in terms of rain days and temperature percentages for the year to date - to be honest last year I was using my weather station to do this but since I've got windows 8 I can't get the data sorted so have pretty much given up apart from physically counting the rain days and snow days - I get the temps from wunderground - I'm thinking of getting a new weather station for next year so I'll do something then but I'm treating myself to a new guitar shortly and the wifes not too happy about that so theres only so many boys toys I'm going to get sanctioned - the telescope is a sore point with her aswel lol

Hi Gaz- yes its become a bit of a habit now each morning- should start to get interesting (in our own geeky sort of way) as we are able to compare one year to the next and see if theres any patterns emerging. - I do love a good list as well lol

 I've added your guess Gaz -as for similarities well its still wet but seriously I think it will take a few years of data to see if theres anything happening on that front - whether I'll keep the enthusiasm that long is hard to say but I'd like to think so :0)

I definitely think I'm on to something with the 9 day rule- yet again as we approach the 9 day threshold with wall to wall cloud cover the skies clear and everything is right with the observing universe.
