am sure I have read somewhere, (and I may be wrong) that we wont notice the nights getting darker until the end of july,  something to do with the earths tilt, cant find where I read it now though

Quite right Leigh.

It's to do with the earth's position on the ecliptic plane in relation to the sun. The earths tilt (23.5degrees) remains constant so that the northern hemisphere is tilted toward the sun during the summer months and away during the winter. I'm sure the Aussies are enjoying long nights at present

Typical uv just had an aurora alert of 224 and it says aurora visible every were in the UK.

It's cloudy and day light we just can't catch a break can we [emoji53]

Mark

imagine how my pro photographer friend is feeling right now, she lives on the Isle of Lewis, and specialises in aurora images.  it wont even get dark enough there for her to see it

Had to nip into Wakefield and took the DSLR, however the falcons were not very cooperative and did not go near the nest in the short time I was there. Managed a quick shot of one perched on the spire (not sure if it is the male or female), before my daughter dragged me away!

They are on the cathedral, at the bottom of the spire. There is a wooden nesting box over the side that faces over the cathedral.

It is quite high up, but you can see well with binoculars. Worth a look before the chicks leave the nest. I didn't see the chicks today as they must have been low in the box. I just saw the one bird, female I believe, perched higher up on the spire :)

She's all finished now - no more revising! Prom on Thursday, so looking forward to that :)

My daughters is today glad I'm not mum having to sit and wait for all that girly pampering.

Pampered the car instead ready to drop her and her friend off after their horse carriage ride
