2" diagonal

Dear all,

I am kind of new (got my CPC 800 about a year ago) to observing the sky with larger telescopes. I decided to replace my 1.25" diagonal

with a Meade 5000 SCT 2" (a great deal that I got!). Is that fine? It is just "to plug and play"?

Other question: the 2" eyepieces that I have been looking around are quite heavier than the 40 mm1.25" eyepiece that I have.

Does my CPC 800 will do well heavier?

Hello - I have the same scope as you and have no problem with heavier eyepieces - the biggest EP I have is the 13mm Ethos, and the motors seem to cope just fine with that, though not sure I would want to go too much heavier than that.

Warm welcome to SGL, your motors should be fine. A scope like that craves 2" eyepieces. I had the same doubts when I had my 10"lx but that took all I threw at it..

Hi Fernando amd welcome to the forum. I have the same telescope as you. I have used a TeleVue powermate with a 31mm T5 Nagler combination many times with (so far) no ill effects. The motors cope with the weight.

Welcome to SGL. My C8 also copes well with a heavy Denkmeier 2" Filter-Switch diagonal (a lot heavier than my regular William Optics 2" diagonal), and Nagler 31T5. No worries whatsoever.

I am in Belo Horizonte, halfway between Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro. I keep my CPC800 at my countryside place, about 50 kms from

the city. So, right now I am enjoying it during weekends only. But the skies are great with minimum urban lights. Great southern skies for sure.
