hi all, my girlfriend and I have been looking to get into stargazing for a while now and are currently looking at telescopes, forums, societies etc. This site definitely looks like it could answer a lot of our questions, hope to spend some time here :)

Hi to the both of you and welcome to the forum. Plenty of information and experience to help you get started, just need to ask some questions and you're away! There is no such thing as an daft question (....answers aside!   ) as we all need to start somewhere but the key thing is to take your time (...stars aren't going anywhere) and with regard to equipment do the research. All the specifications that you read on line about this scope and that won't mean a thing unless you have establish your own datum point, of what will meet your own expectations. To that end it is a really good idea to attend a couple of public observation session that are being organised by your local astro club/society in order to take a look through some of this kit to see if the view interests you further. Also seeing this kit close up allows you to anticipate setup times, cool down times and general ease of use should you need to transport it to a dark site (many of us suffer from light pollution problems).

Clear skies for now and enjoy the forum.

James
