Zul
Hello i want to ask is it a good idea to put this 200/1000 http://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/info/p49_GSO-200mm-f-5-Newtonian-Parabolic---2--Dual-Speed-Crayford.html on Eq3-2 mount for visual astronomy? swamp thing
HiI wouldn't. The EQ3-2 isn't sturdy enough for an 8" scope IMO.
tich
By what I've read on various threads an EQ5 is about the limit for a 200P.
TheThing
You can use a 200 on an EQ 4. I have done for visual and webcaming.TheThing

ollypenrice
Agreed, the smaller mount isn't up to it.Olly
Rob
8" newt on a EQ3-2 is unusable really... its on the edge of a EQ5 to be fair.Rob
Rob
Prob fair to say the only way you could put an 8" newt on a EQ3-2 would be to ditch the metal tube, and create a carbon fiber truss to house the mirrors.. sorry just thinking allowed

I actually have experience of going this.TheThing
Rob
Never tried the EQ4.. but I understand its a quality version of the EQ3-2 (I think). better gears etc.. maybe worth picking one up for sure!. I have (as a side reflection) used a C8 on a EQ3 (shorter tube I know) It did work, but lots of wobbles
fredster
CG4 maybe possible with its steel tripod. EQ3-2 with aluminium tripod, not a chance.
FarSide
From personal experience i'd say now. I once tried to attached my 250px (a dob) onto my EQ3 and it was like a fart in the breeze. I've since bought an NEQ6.
shirva
Hi..I had bought a second hand 8" mounted on a eq 3/2 had to add extra balance weight to balance it out..my garden is enclosed so wind not a problem .bit wobble from scope focusing ..if your getting for nothing take it ..but as others say bigger mount would be better ..as for alloy legs mine were never extended so can't see why this mount gets slated all the time
cotterless45
It comes with the 150pl. This is a 1200mm ota and the vibes are terrible.I'd stick a short 150 ota on it.I've filled the tripod legs with cement mix and it's a bit better for smaller refractors. For the new cost of £170, it's a bit of a shaker.Might be interesting to try wooden legs.An Eq5 is just ace for 200 ota. It's light enough to be portable.Fair enough if you got the set up 2nd hand and don't suffer wind.Nick.
