Hi

We moved house to the northern edge of the New Forest (from the fringes of a town on the eastern side of the forest, which was due north of Southampton, so rubbish south view)

Anyway. I knew the new location was fairly dark, but with all the bad weather I haven't seen a star for about 2 months... until last night.

I saw the milky way.. right down to the tops of the trees due south of us, that's got to be only 15 or 20 degrees above the horizon. I could even make out some of the delicate parts of the dust lanes at the zenith.

happy?..

I will be if this bright spell lasts!

Quite. If I manage to get out this weekend it will be only the fourth time in four months. I have the ST120 outside already and have moved the EQ3-2 out so I can mount up the Mak and polar align it tonight in the hope of doing a bit of solar imaging tomorrow. Sadly I don't think I shall get the 10" dob together this weekend as it's unlikely all the bits will arrive in time. I hope to make up "lids" for the base and secondary cage and get the mirrors, focuser and finder fitting all sorted though.
