rfdesigner
HiWe moved house to the northern edge of the New Forest (from the fringes of a town on the eastern side of the forest, which was due north of Southampton, so rubbish south view)Anyway. I knew the new location was fairly dark, but with all the bad weather I haven't seen a star for about 2 months... until last night.I saw the milky way.. right down to the tops of the trees due south of us, that's got to be only 15 or 20 degrees above the horizon. I could even make out some of the delicate parts of the dust lanes at the zenith.happy?..I will be if this bright spell lasts!Derek

DirkSteele
I dragged many people out to the New Forest when I was president of the Uni Astronomy society. It was fantastic to be able to travel a relatively short distance for very good skies.Enjoy.

JamesF
Excellent. You know it's going to be good when you have a decent view of the Milky Way.James
Beulah
I've yet to see the Milky Way this year. Haven't been out since May and am SO looking forward to getting back into the saddle again.
JamesF
Quite. If I manage to get out this weekend it will be only the fourth time in four months. I have the ST120 outside already and have moved the EQ3-2 out so I can mount up the Mak and polar align it tonight in the hope of doing a bit of solar imaging tomorrow. Sadly I don't think I shall get the 10" dob together this weekend as it's unlikely all the bits will arrive in time. I hope to make up "lids" for the base and secondary cage and get the mirrors, focuser and finder fitting all sorted though.James
