Belt of Orion

done this night and the night before from my balkony with Moravian G2 and Canon EF200 LII. 15x900s L and 7x600s for every channel in RGB.

Loads of detail there! I would love to see an external aperture mask used here. Not really a fan of the spikes on just about every star.

What aperture was the lens set to? Its very sharp!

You can make an aperture mask easily to avoid using the diaphragm;

Yes. Wide open it's F2.8 which is a nice idea but introduces coma.

To cut that down you need to slow the f ratio by reducing the aperture. The FL is 200mm so if you want to try F4 divide 200mm by 4, get fifty, and so cut a 50mm hole in your mask. It will cover my 15mm square chip much faster than that, around F3.5.

I made my aperture mask out of another lens cap. I needed to make the hole 45mm to not get spikes at f3.5-f4.

you use such a mask with a 200 lens? I have to make one! Diameter 50mm is good? A friend of mine tried to do it with a mask last night but he got an ugly vignette.

You don`t have problems like that?

I don't get any vignette with my modded lens cap at 45mm as my mask. Maybe if the mask is too far fom the front element it may cause problems?
