Hi after years of hoping good ol santa finally brought me a telescope. I am now the proud owner celestron astromaster 114. The past couple of nights have been cloudy but after persisting i finally managed to see a star through my scope:hello2:.

In the manual it says to keep both eyes open when using the finderscope but finding this very difficult to focus on one star, has anybody got any tips to setting up and using the finder scope.

Many thanks Peter

Hello Peter. Welcome to SGL.

I think your 'scope uses a starpointer red dot finder? If so you need to look with both eyes at your target object but with one eye looking through the finder. Then centre the red dot on the target object . It sounds difficult but you soon get the hang of it
