Hi guys!

Hope you're all well on this, sadly cloudy Boxing Day and you all had an awesome Christmas.

My names Ted. I've been in posession of a telescope for about 6 years and never really tried to hard to learn anything, I just "pointed at stuff" Recently I became really into astrophotography, shot from a tripod with no tracking aids and came back with some pretty reasonable results.

Unfortunately, just after I managed to manufacture a mount for my camera some errant sheep destroyed my scope (don't ask!!) an old Celestron 130mm Newt.

Santa was really kind to me and blessed me with the funds for a Skywatcher 200mm Newt with a EQ5 mount. Which I am desperate to test. I thought it only proper to come and socialise with some of those strangely enthusiastic types that gather around tubes in the dead of night.

I look forward to speaking to (and learning lots from) you all.

Ted :D

hi ted and welcome to sgl. nice intro like the bit about gathering around a tube, true though. your gonna love your scope and mount

Thanks Faulksy. From what I've learnt of amatuer astronomers is that we're solitary yet strangely extrovert :)

I can't wait to test it. I'm totally blown away by the size of the beggar! Absolute monster :D

Hi Ted,

Welcome to the forums.

Beautiful clear skies outside at the moment, but I don't think that SWMBO would appreciate me wandering around outside disturbing her.

hmmm South Yorkshire? Don't tempt me to drive for clear skies... I did a long range check and I think I'm gonna be lucky to get some stars in the next 2 weeks :D

Don't bother driving - it never lasts for long and is totally unpredictable.

Hoping for a clear Thursday night as we have a members evening at our society Observatory. Good chance to iron out any niggles with equipment, with some really experienced guys.

It's not looking promising though :D

Hi Ted and welcome to SGL, sorry to hear about your last scope, but I suppose you are well stocked with mutton in your freezer now, he he but you should be thankful to the woolly beast as look what you have gained by the experience :D

John.
