  1. This looks a really neat mount, i can see this tech making its way onto other mounts in time, but for me i will stick with the star discovery mount (unless i find a wad of cash )
  2. Chris, no i dont think it remembers, though i seem to remember if you set it to park it might do but dont quote me on that
  3. It looks a bit odd sat all the way down there but yes very comfy to use, the big finder is a little extravagant but worth doing for main scope
  4. Just been outside having a play with the Star discovery mount, kinda getting to know it, not to difficult as it happens, managed to enter date and coordinates first time, so this is now my main set up, should do okay for a bit of moon gazing and Moon imaging, the pic of the church is an afocal holding camera to 32mm ep, church is about 1.2 mile away, you will notice how i mounted the 9x50 to get it out of the way of the main eyepiece, just need to make a dew shield for it and all done
  5. I ordered a skywatcher 9x50 RACI finder for my 5" Maksutov, this was end of shop hours Thursday, Its just arrived and so carefully packaged, as always 5 star service from FLO
  6. I have ordered a 9x50 RACI finder for my Skymax 127, it was pointed out that it would not be in the ideal position if i used the standard finder shoe as it would be in the way of the diagonal/eyepiece, so i mounted a second finder shoe on the tube, i left the original in place, just in case i want to add some thing else to the scope like a red dot finder, just waiting for the 9x50 to arrive
  7. Nice....at least we will be back to lovely long dark nights when it arrives with you
  8. I dont see the point of a rotating focuser, its no harder to rotate the diagonal if needed A decent rack and pinion focuser is always going to be hard to beat, the Mk1 RS 2" R&P that was fitted to the TAL 125r i owned was one of the best focusers i have ever used. If i was to be in the market for a new focuser and could not get a decent R&P i would look at the Baader
  9. If i get a chance at weekend i will post my new set up, though the OTA did belong to me a few years back, we have been "re united" nothing special a skymax 127 on the star discovery mount
  10. downloaded and seem to have got it working does the polar finder have any bearing on a synscan AZ mount?
  11. Jumping on this thread, how do you use the app, is it just a case of copying whats on screen?
  12. Might be in with a chance..............we get a lot of cloud here in Queensbury
  13. They should come out okay, make sure you use the correct screwdriver, and a little tip try tightening a fraction before undoing
  14. By heck lad, there is a lot of Televue going on i that case, are the 32mm slightly different in length?
  15. All the very best to you and your bride, wishing you both a long and happy life together (nice cake)
  16. Ian, a very fair first light report, i think with a few more sessions you will discover the pleasure of a fair size Mak, very contrasty views and not just planets an moon, some DSO respond well to the Mak, i guess it highlights how different scopes have different qualities
  17. Ian, a few bits and pieces have come together to make a rather interesting combo, these Maks can take very high power on good nights and putting it on the adapted Tal mount should allow such use..........very nice set up
  18. I am always waiting for stuff from China for my flying hobby, and i get impatient waiting
  19. Thinking about how this thread has progressed I have decided never to attempt any review, also I am going to refrain from mentioning this scope in any posts on the forum, cases closed
  20. Allow me to clear up a point, not one person recommended the 120 for deep sky, it was put forward for my main interest of all things Luna, planets and double star, it is extremely capable in these roles as one would expect. I choose to try it at deep sky work and I found it disappointing on this respect, no one suggested I should try this, with regard to "forum hype" I used this for want of a better term, implying that people praise this scope highly. Maybe its time to lock this thread?
  21. And there speaks the true words of wisdom, i am pleased to see you have interpreted my post in its true context Just need to clear up an issue regarding dobs....its not that i dont like them, they are a very good tool at a decent price, i just dont have room for an assembled dob base, it would have to live in a some what damp outbuilding, that would not be conducive to long life of the MDF and would have to be moved every time i needed to get other stuff in/out, its true i dont care for diffraction spikes, i guess i am not in a position to own a dob
  22. Mike, the optical figure of the 120 has never been in question, it was set up on the day of purchase along side Moonshanes 120ED and gave identical views per given ep............I am pleased you noticed that i was praising the view of Jupiter, i have never seen the GRS so well defined in this class of scope
  23. The poor old EQ5 seems to be getting a bit of bad press here..........but look at the workhorse you get for your money, i think i might be on my 3rd one due to changing kit from time to time, i have never had a bolt bend or cause any other problem, when polar aligned i can get more than 90sec subs, not that i need that long for what i used it for
  24. Stu.....I will post some Luna observing reports in time, Luna is not affected by LP, imaging might be with the Mak though Shane, i would like to try Bino viewing but it comes at a price, at least £200 for a half decent binoviewer then trying to double up on half decent ep`s, some of my favorite ep`s are hard to come by as no longer made i.e Antares ortho`s and others are less suited..........maybe its like looking at DSO`s with a big dob..........if you dont look then you dont miss not seeing it
