  1. Could you remind me where is this thread which I would wont read? Thanks.
  2. For search sun I put the hand in front of the finderscope which after I close with his stopper for security.
  3. I read that vintage 60 mm are better than those made in China tuday, I had a Konus 60/700, bought in 1983, which was nice for seeing sun and moon. Last year I have bought a Bresser vintage 60/900 which I liked looking at Moon and alpha Geminorum.
  4. You have this period of good weather because the Azores anticyclone is in the British Isles, bad weather arrives here in Italy when this happens; in fact, it has been raining here for a month and usually it is the opposite: in May it rains little, in June the summer drought begins to make itself felt. With the telescope I haven't done anything anymore but I have to say that last year in this period there was an average of 35 C/95 F while this year we are on 25 C/77 F and it is MUCH better; there is time for astronomical observations!
  5. A few days ago I saw Venus with the acromatic 80/400 (the Konus Vista) putting X174 and the Contrast Booster filter, the planet was contrasted but there was a few of blue halo, other time seeing Venus at X100 the CA is less. Instead looking at Moon at X174 and the Contrast filter it was very nice. I would like very much to buy a long acromatic as 90/1300 (Vixen Polaris 90 L or Kenko) or, above all, a 108/1600!!!
  6. I'm sorry, I noticed it after sending the message.
  7. There is this table. For a acromatic 120/1000 wich has f/d = 8.3 CA have a filterable level.
  8. In fact, an ED apochromat that costs "only" 339 euros is very, very strange!
  9. A 120/1000 has a cromatic residue which it isn't negligible, a 100/1000 has less CA than this.
  10. To see the Sun I use an achromatic 80/400 (Konus Vista) bought two years ago and a full aperture glass filter, to improve the contrast I put a W58 green filter, a Vixen 8-24 zoom in the eyepiece. The whole thing is put on a photographic tripod. I like this scope for the images it gives and for its portability.
  11. I see well a refractor for begin, you can use it and for astronomical observations and for seeing landscapes/views. For seeing Moon, Sun and planets a 100/1000 acromatic refractor is better than a reflector of 130 mm because of the obstruction of the little secondary mirror which causes a degradation of the image. Many years ago I read a astronomy article where a 108/1600 acromatic refractor had been confronted with a 152/2800 Cassegrain, the refractor gave better images then Cassegrain of Moon, Planets and Sun but the latter was superior for the double stars.
  12. Welcome John, Australia must be beautiful as well as having a great sky!!!
  13. Every now and then they invent some.....
  14. I have a acromatic refractor 80/400 whose I am content, a Konus Vista-80 which I put on a photographic tripod, at my car (a Fiat Panda) I haven't problems of space with the other luggages when I go to Cagliari for the week-end. I put a link in italian where there is a test of thise scope: https://www.dark-star.it/astronomia-articoli-e-test/test-strumentali/omegon-90-500-acro/
  15. For me the fact that you use one system of units of measurement or another is not a big deal, if I want to know how much is a given distance in miles I do a unit conversion from miles to kilometers. Clearly, living in Italy and being used to the metric system, hearing measurements in other units doesn't make me understand how normal it is.
  16. By a few months now my desirable telescope would be the Vixen 90/1300 (or its analogue by Kenko); a couple of years ago I bought the Vixen 102-M which, mounted on an EQ5, I used to see Mars. I've never set eyes on pure apochromats or EDs, and maybe from a certain point of view it's better, so I'm not tempted to buy one also because I've remained at the level of "curious about the sky" and nothing more; I really like seeing the Sun visually and making a sketch of it observing with an old achromatic 80/400, the Konus Vista (if you can call an optic you already have "desirable").
  17. You also have to add women's magazines and cooking magazines and the picture is complete!
  18. At least the moon, sun and planets should be within your reach; the important thing is to do what you can.
  19. I too am having the same problems. Here in Sardinia we have the advantage of being few inhabitants, so leaving my village in central Sardinia (Orotelli), I would find quite dark skies but I too have problems making bad encounters; the ideal thing would be to go out in a group, at least to be more emotionally safe. In the end I ended up settling for my terrace, at night you can see the Milky Way, even if less well than 30 – 40 years ago, once using an achromatic 70/400 (the Celestron Travelscope) I arrived at magnitude + 10 observing the Pleiades. Of course if I remember the sky I saw a few years ago in the countryside of Dorgali (village about 40 km from mine) ........, there were so many stars that I could not recognize the constellations, absolutely fantastic!
