  1. From the album: Out and About

Went to the beach today. Very warm and windy. Two tower roosts have been placed in the sea off shore to provide breeding havens for the endangered local kittiwake colony. I imaged one with a impromptu iphone 8x40 binoculars combination. I thought this would make a great foreground for my recent MilkyWay image. "All a bit of a cheat" to quote Mrs H but it wiled away an hour or so whilst my grandson monopolised the TV with Grand Theft Auto gaming.
  2. Last night the sky was very stable for an hour or so. I'm sure that I could see the whole Veil Nebula using averted vision and my Nikon 8x40 bins. Tonight sadly I'm back to cloud and dropping temperatures. Oh to be an astro-imager in warmer southern climes!

  3. From the album: Backyard Astronomy

There was a bit of clear moon free sky over Lowestoft last night and the Summer Triangle was high over the backyard so I got out my Star Adventurer EQ mount, my Sigma EX zoom widefield lens and both modded and unmodded Canon DSLRs. I captured 10x2min RAW lights with each camera at f=14mm and ISO800. Each set was than stacked using Affinity Photo2 and then combined using Registar. The combined image was then processed using Affinity Photo 2, Starnet GUI, GraXpert, ImagesPlus6, AstroSharp, GradientXterminator and Topaz AI. The image was than cropped to a square format.
  4. Saw a few stars over Lowestoft last night👍 Plus two meteor stragglers from the shower.😀

  5. Excellent work. Weather over Lowestoft very poor with the best part of the night ruined with high level cloud. Didn't even see one let alone image one this year!
  6. From the album: Out and About

Just back from Lido de Jesolo where Mrs H and I celebrated our 50th Wedding Anniversary. (My, how that woman has suffered!) This is a stack of 5x15 sec JPEG lights with my little Canon IXUS compact camera leaning against a rock on a timber pier looking out over the Adriatic. I never see Sagittarius from my backyard so was pleased to get this noisy snap on a misty night with plenty of light pollution.
  7. Home in Lowestoft and guess what lots of clouds - so no Perseids for me tonight!🥹

  8. Partial sun halo or dog as imaged by Mrs H with her iPhone.7875B0B5-57DD-44C3-8698-2C6350CDAB1A.thumb.jpeg.493f42e87d734d66edec31b8bbd34629.jpeg

  9. From the album: Out and About

Nearly falling off a wooden jetty with my iPhone. Very noisy but good fun with my grandson who pulled me from the waves🤣🔭📷
  10. Moon balanced on top of a parasol. Old bloke with an iphoneE84F49F3-00E1-4F46-855E-22603206DA08.jpeg.33a42135500212a51378ea939114b4ab.jpeg

  11. I'm on holiday and was sat on the hotel balcony which faces west. Between 21:30 and 22:00 last night there was a bright blue band above the horizon which was clearly noticeable with the naked eye even though the buildings and sky were awash with light pollution. I am pretty sure this was a band of NLC activity as has not been visible on any other night whilst I have been here. I didn't expect this in August and much further west than from home. Could have been just a normal cloud/atmospheric effect but it was super luminous, glowing, temporary and very blue. I managed to get a photo with my Canon IXUS compact camera but no way of up loading to SGL until I get back to UK.

George currently sunburnt and marvelling at a sky with just a few clouds in it!

  12. Really nice images Reggie! Hope you are keeping well in the hot weather . Have not been able to do any Astronomy here as permanent cloud seems to have settled overhead. Hope to have some holiday soon in Italy where it should be a bit warmer and think astrophotography will have to wait until September when the gas giants will be a bit higher in the sky. best regards George
  13. I left cloud shrouded Lowestoft for three days and actually saw the Sun for a few hours above the Kent country side. Back now and the sky is a uniform grey from horizon to horizon. I’m going on holiday soon for a couple of weeks so the weather in the UK is likely to improve considerably in my absence. Sadly for any meteor fans I will be back before the Perseid maximum which should probably put the kibosh on that.🔭🤣🌧🌪
  14. My experience of interacting with exceptionally gifted people has been generally very positive. A few could not get over themselves but the majority were modest and supportive of others. Being a good person brings it's own rewards and what could be better than to be remembered as a positive influence and a kindly eccentric soul. Thank you for sharing this memory. George
  15. From the album: Out and About

Encountered this pub as Mrs H and I were wandering about in the City of London.
  16. From the album: Out and About

A compilation of data I captured from Pakefield cliffs a couple of years ago. The light pollution was worse then. Hopefully, I will get lucky with the weather this year and image a few more Perseids. Canon 600d DSLR, Sigma EX wide angle zoom lens all mounted on a Star Adventurer EQ mount A cropped compilation of the night's meteors.

    Berenice's Hair

    From the album: Backyard Astronomy

Queen Berenice 11 a properly empowered woman having a bad hair day!
  18. It is downright uncanny! Have I the power of telekinesis?

Mrs H had me in the backyard doing something vaguely constructive and helpful when, looking up, I thought "there are plenty of gaps between the clouds why don't I take the covers off the telescope and do some white light solar"? It was only a fleeting thought, I never said a word nor did I move towards the pillar. As if by magic a clap of thunder exploded above my head and almost simultaneously the heavens opened - 'rain drops keep falling on my head' -well they do in Lowestoft!

You've got the power, George. Now, clear all the skies in the U.K., lol!

      Regards, Reggie ;)

  19. Best of luck with all new hobbies and pursuits you adopt. Always enjoyed reading your posts so would be good if you do stick around. George

    Auroral Crown AB

    From the album: Aurora

I captured this 5 second image back in 2017 at the end of a great night imaging the aurora in Reykjavik. Until recently I have been unable to process this image satisfactorily. Starnet GUI, Affinity Photo2, Topaz Denoise AI and Images Plus working in concert have done a reasonable job.
  21. Thanks for posting. I followed the link and read about Ann Hodges. What a sad story. Unsurprisingly there is no 'upside' to being hit by a meteorite. Best regards from George in Lowestoft on a wet and dreary afternoon.

    A very beautiful eye-catching image!

    Mystery moonscape

    From the album: The Moon

You can probably tell that the weather has been grim in Lowestoft and that I am bored and a bit fed up! This image is a stack of a video clip taken on the 15th of June 2016 captured with my 127mm Meade Apo refractor, x3 Televue Barlow and a QHY5L-iic planetary camera.. I cannot remember what I was pointing my scope at on that night but believe the crater complex, close to the terminator, top left is the Hainzel group of craters. The craters Epimenides are to the right I think unless you know better. There are some quite interesting rilles at the bottom right in this image. I enjoy a nice rille!
  24. From the album: Backyard Astronomy

Been working on this image to try and match the view you get through a low power eyepiece.
