    Gemini 50 crop

    From the album: Backyard Astronomy

The constellation Gemini imaged with my Canon 600d DSLR and Canon 1.4 50mm fixed lens all on a Star Adventurer EQ mount.
  2. Two clear nights since I obtained my preloved Canon 1.4 - 50mm fixed lens. Used two Canon DSLRs one modded (with a Triband Filter) and one unmodded mounted on a Star Adventurer. 2 minute lights at ISO800. Just about an hours worth of exposures in total. Processed mainly using Affinity Photo2. Just pleased to be able to capture some photons from our backyard. I very much like the Constellation Auriga but always find it difficult to image successfully.
  3. Back to normality - horizon to horizon cloud cover! - so murky. I'm struggling to see my neighbour's security lighting.

  4. Two clear nights with no Moon in a row! What's going on?

  5. Excellent! Didn't get to see it from here so great to see your image. George

    Orion widefield

    From the album: Backyard Astronomy

Last night was clear, cold and windy but I braved the elements to try out my pre-loved 50mm 1.4 Canon Lens. Modded Canon 200d DSLR on Star Adventurer EQ mount. Skytech clip-in Triband filter. 2 min lights at ISO800. Stacked with InfintyPhoto2. Needs a lot more data but new lens works fine although the focus is a bit unforgiving. Quite liked the dusty look Orion with the Witch head Neb just grinning like the Cheshire Cat.
  7. Cold and windy night here on the coast. Cloud, rain and bit of sleet earlier, with the sky clearing after midnight but too much wind for astrophotography and old men.

Night all, from the old man by the sea.

  8. One of my granddaughters is having a difficult time and stargazing provides her with a good place to be. It also provides a shared experience, point of contact and a neutral topic of conversation. I gave her my old 90ra ETX telescope just before Christmas and we both await clear and calm nights in 2024. Love and Astronomy go together surprisingly well. George
  9. Just as well it’s cloudy over Lowestoft as I’m a bit tipsy! Probably the Talisker but it is Skye related🤣

  10. Very pleased with this gift from my daughter Lulu who designed a logo for my observatory and had it printed on a mug and tee shirt. She also had two of my bespoke blurry Astro images printed on pillowcases in order that I can lay my old head on the stars. Ah bless as they say in Lowestoft.
  11. Very poor year on the East Coast. September was the best but then we both went down with Covid. When you factor in moonlight, the weather, the affect of the tide on coastal cloud, the jet stream, misbehaving electronics, illness, making time for other activities and my general decrepitude, it is a wonder I get to image anything from our backyard. Still and just like Peter Rabbit, I’m not downhearted and will keep on trying to amuse you all with my trade mark ‘blurry technicolour images. One thing I have noticed this year is how changeable the weather has been and consequently how often the metrology models have got it wrong for Lowestoft. I guess that is one of the many downsides of global warming. I believe my sunny uplands like my garden electrics have been submerged under flood water. Next year though, every night will be clear, transparent, and filled with laughter and the sound of shutters clicking!

  14. My house was built on what was once a large pond for a large country house long demolished. There was no provision for surface water drainage when it was built. When I constructed a patio I dug out the puddled clay and constructed a huge soakaway under it. I also planted bamboo in the borders. In 10 years it hasn’t flooded but I am currently overrun by giant pandas😂
  15. Have an excellent Christmas Reggie!

best wishes from George and Anita (Mrs H)🎄🎄

  16. Nacreous cloud over our home this afternoon captured by Mrs H with her iPhone, very bright and colourful (unprocessed straight from the camera)
  17. Just to say thank you to FLO for hosting SGL and to all of the members who post and bring a bit more joy into my life and the world. Mrs H and I send our best wishes to you all  this Christmas.🌙🌞🪐🌟

Merry Christmas, George and Mrs. George! 🎄

  18. Sadly solid cloud overhead in Lowestoft tonight. Looking at Sat24 I suspect there will be no meteors for me tonight!

  19. Very clear night. Just driven back from Salisbury via Winchester and Guildford, so too tired to get out imaging kit. Did however witness a very bright early Geminid meteor. Always a treat to see!

Can very much recommend visits to Salisbury and Winchester Cathedrals. They are architectural and historical gems.

    George back home in Lowestoft.

I did the tower tour when I visited Salisbury Cathedral, absolutely mind-blowing experience.  We stood out on the balcony at the base of the spire to breath taking views of the surroundings as well as the awesome view of the spire towering up into the sky , literally reaching for the heavens. I felt dizzy looking down as well as feeling dizzy looking up!

  20. Just about finished my  'Christmas Crafting' for this year. Spent the day painting with Hammerite. All I could do to restrain Mrs H from sniffing the methylated spirits I was using as a solvent. She has always liked the smell! The 'Spirit of Christmas' and less than £5 a bottle. Absolute 'stocking' bargain for the woman in your life!

  21. Preloved fast 50mm lens from Mrs H for Christmas. Looking forward to trying it out on a ‘clear night’ some time in the next few months 🤣
