Glad you were able to get some good rays. Been lovely here. -

Thanks Mark, appreciate your comment. -
Hi all, screenshots for info of solar activity. New plage area South Eastern quadrant, AR2827 developing nicely and large prom on the South Western quadrant. Several smaller proms dotted around the disk.

Hi, I don't take off the double stack but I know other people do. I don't use a focal reducer for full disk using a Zwo ASI 178mm camera. I do sometimes use a 2.5x powermate for closer image's but more often than not use just region of interest in the camera settings in firecapture. For full disk I capture 1000 frames with a 40% stack and close up 3000/4000 with a 15/20% stack in autostakker 3. Yes, the scope's are expensive but my double stack was second hand so that made it affordable. Hope that helps.

Sun really active around AR2824 and 2826 (26th May)

Thanks Mark, yeah, I was really surprised how fast it's grown. -

Yeah, the newly assigned AR2826 has certainly burst into an active region with full blown spot group. -
Okey dokey Jeremy. Think it'll be easy to fit eight handles, two on each quarter. I really can't be bothered to automate it, lol.
-
Have you put handle's on your dome or is it automated Jeremy?
-
Thanks Rusted, I certainly could do with at least a two handle's of some kind each quarter of the dome to pull it around. I got my fingers trapped against a wheel inside the ring a few months back. It hurt and was bruised for a week. I was wondering about someone of cupboard handle. I do have a motor off an old disability scooter and a variable speed controller that works with it and can reverse the motor as well. I'm not sure how to fit it, probably need to make an inner ring and have some kind of tooth ring. I would then just be able to move it as needed electronically.
-
Unfortunately I have to move the dome myself. I've a pulley system on the shutter so that's easy. It is a bit of a pain moving the dome every half hour, lol.
-
Thanks peps, it's all working a treat. All I need now is clear skies, lol. I thought the music was nice, lol. It's what I listen to while I'm imaging. I think it's called "Astromix." It's spaced out, lol.

Hi all, just triple mounted my Calcium II K, white light and hydrogen alpha scopes. Thankfully all camera's fall in the field of view on the monitor so only a little adjustment needed to frame whichever wavelength I'm imagining. received_1884199208405099.mp4

Northern Summer
Nigella Bryant replied to Astro Noodles's topic in Getting Started General Help and Advice
I love the summer months for solar imaging. A calcium II K filter and a 70mm to 100mm refractor you can image lovely features using your own scope. Cost is comparable to a decent refractor but what's not to like. Plug and play unlike HA where you have to tune and clock the solar scope to get even illumination. Screenshots for info in Calcium II K yesterday 22nd May. -
It's really quite exciting active region with lot's of flare's everyday so far. BTW, new active region with smaller spot in the northern quadrant

Heads up 19th May solar activity
Nigella Bryant replied to Nigella Bryant's topic in Observing - Solar
Hi, I did notice one spot and two pores, precursor to full blown spots. Well done on the WL captures they are good. Nothing wrong with WL. Most of us start our slippery slope into solar observation and imaging with WL. -
Hi all, just posting two screenshots of the solar activity today. Some lovely prom's too. Screenshots in HA and CaK.
-
Brilliant, it's looking like a big active region with a large spot and associated smaller spots, it's a good one. I've added some screenshots in Calcium II K from my captures this morning.

15th May Calcium II K solar session.

Hi Andy, yes, they are sent to the British Astronomical Association solar section and correlated by them. Many thanks for your comments, much appreciated.
