  1. Well clouds have cleared for now. Gonna try recording a video of Saturn with a DSLR for stacking if it comes into my restricted southern view. And maybe catch some noctilucent clouds after sunset. Not sure what DSLR settings to go for..... hmmmm....

Good luck with Saturn :happy7: it is pretty clear hear at the moment also so hopefully it will stay so.

Nope.... cloud rolling over the Downs from the south, thickening with every 10mins...

  2. High haze is my nemesis today for first attempt at video capture with a DSLR and also first light for Canon 100D. But I've got a few vids just to have data to play with at stacking tonight. A few hand-held shots with both the 20D and 100D of the Sun with my DIY 58mm Baader film filter.  Now chilling with a San Miguel as I wait for a thinner part of cloud to pass over

  3. Teeny weeny itsy bitsy Jupiter in my 90mm scope.... really hungering to get my 150 newt set up now!!!

  4. That awful gutted feeling you get when you review the data from last night's sesh, to find that somewhere along the line you knocked everything out of focus :(

Ouch. Know the feeling. Part of the mistakes that go with the territory to get the good stuff, hope your next session is a good 'un.

      Ant

Or in a number of my sessions, you realise that you never finished focusing in the first place lol.

  5. Going to attempt to catch some early Perseids with the 350D, and try some more star trail experimentation with the 20D tonight :)

  6. Fingers crossed for clear skies tonight, wanna try Jupiter, and have a stab at Saturn in prep for opposition in a couple of weeks time :)

  7. Seeing as with the ep's and barlowsI have, I've only got 16x, 32x, 48x, 65x, 130x, and 195x.....and nothing around 100x.......so goodbye £60 and hello Celestron X-Cel 7mm arriving guaranteed Sunday :)

It arrived Sunday just after 11am, and looks awesome! Had to re-arrange my flight case, and my OCD with the foam arrangements kicked in, and cos obviously I don't have the old foam that I took out five years ago when I first got it, it's not all even and level where I had to re-pack some of the foam from places I had to pluck it from to move my LPR filter and EP in. major :( over uneven foam.....

I purposely wont buy anymore EPs for this exact reason :D

      Astronomer's OCD...... loooool!!!

  8. Thinks FLO needs to find a supplier for DSLR light pollution filters. They could make a fortune! And my search for a 58mm LPR filter would come to a happy ending

      ronin

So much light pollution is white light that a filter for it is close to impossible.

Not round here, evil orange light permeates everything....

  9. Beautiful day and I'm stuck bedridden. Have just ordered Turn Left At Orion off Amazon to save me from boredom whilst my back heals. Hope it comes soon

  10. massive thoracic muscular spasm and trapped nerve..... oh the joys. No chance of getting set up for ISS tonight then :-(

    1. ronin

      ronin

Did they give a cause for it? Does not sound like something that just occurs. Also sounds like the "treatment" may take an extended time.

Cant pinpoint when it happened exactly, may have something to do with recording 4 mins of System Of A Down's opening performance at Wembley Friday night. But we were seated (other half has fractured foot). Got sent home with tramadol, naproxen and amitriptyline, and instructions to not do anything strenuous til the pain subsides. So that crosses out lugging my AZ-4 down two flights of stairs... :-( one shall entertain ones self with looking at everyone else's astrophotos and endeavou...

  12. Wish this chronic back pain would [removed word] off. Ruined my weekend of observing Venus and the Seven Sisters ffs!!!

    1. ronin

      ronin

What is/was the cause? My last nasty painful back turned out to be a kidney stone. If yours was a strain then let it heal, then slowly and lightly strengthen it. Then get back to observing. Do not go out too soon, get warm clothing even in summer, good body warmer is useful.

While I can sympathise with your back pain and know personally how bad it can be please remember this is a family friendly forum and the same rules apply to status updates as they do to any other part of the forum.

Only said b.u.g.g.e.r...... Got a Drs appointment in an hr, as been bedridden for two and a half days. The pain is too high for kidney trouble, something muscular as I keep having painful spasms. Tramadol and 1000mg of co-codamol is not touching it. And I wanna do is get out there with my baby scope, bins and cameras, and teach the other half what little I know.

  13. Was so looking forward to catching the ISS tonight but total cloud cover means another forlorn evening spent griping and bitching about it after such a sunny day! Fingers crossed for tomorrow

  14. Beautiful blue skies and tweeting birds in Fox Hill, Sussex. Please let the clouds stay away for tonight!! Happy Easter everyone! xx

  15. First light with my Canon 20D. Only had time to fire off 4 shots before the cloud came back! Can't help but daydream the possibilities with a telephoto lens...

  16. Canon 20D and 28-80mm lens on its way to me :D

      What refractor, what camera?

      Is a diagonal involved.

    3. Ant

      Ant

If it's a refractor and you don't have a diagonal you may need to add a diagonal or an extension tube. Pretty much all refractors are designed to be used with a diagonal for visual, when you try to focus do you run out of in focus or out focus?

Hope your not too bad Strange thing is I was always falling over in Engand when ice was around. Here we have snow and ice for about 3 months and I don't have a problem. Maybe the ice is not so slippery.
