  1. Hi, Ben, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.
  2. Isn't rate 1 the slowest & rate 4 the fastest?
  3. Yes, I went to see it. We stayed in a (third-rate, but who cared?) B&B and set off early to find a good spot, which we did. It was on a residential road, on a hill facing downwards towards the sea in the south. Perfect. We got to this location between seven and eight. Just before nine the owner of the house outside which we were parked came and offered us coffee! The only thing that could have been better would have been a clear sky (yeah - like we believed that was going to happen!) Memories of seeing lots of 'flash' shots of the clouds being taken on the beach during the minutes of totality. And the traffic jams as we headed home afterwards. Still, at least most of that journey was in glorious sunshine!!!
  4. OK, thinking on my feet here, but doesn't EQMOD have a setting where you select the speeds for each of the four slewing speeds? Are these set right? You aren't hitting horizon/meridian limits are you?

    Hello

Hi, Zynch, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.
  6. Hi, Philip, and welcome back to SGL. I know what you mean about the 250 dob - used to own one and found it totally unmanageable. A move to a smaller one made all the difference. The best scope, as they say, is the one that gathers photons rather than just dust! Enjoy the journey.
  7. Hi, KN13, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.
  8. Hi, boyandorion, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.
  9. That is seriously weird, as, according to this site, 3906 x 2602 isn't even a valid option for image size ...
  10. That is a great start - particularly for a "phone against the eyepiece" image. As an interim measure, until you can afford an astro-camera, something like this may be useful - there are lots of options around and I have no idea if this specific one is any good, but I know others on SGL have used something like this very effectively.
  11. Are they still there when you apply your flats?
  12. Hi, RS, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.
  13. My only thought (if you haven't already done it) is to turn the diagonal so that you look into it from the 'side' of the scope rather than the more normal 'top'.
  14. For many years (decades!) I used nothing more than a pair of 7x50 bins - simplicity epitomised! I still use them, but tend to only go out when I set up the imaging rig, so probably not as much as previously. There's logic in there somewhere!!
  15. Hi, Rob, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.

    Hello!

Hi, Jessica, and welcome to SGL. Enjoy the journey.
  17. Hi, Richard, and welcome to SGL. If AP is your passion, it might be worth getting a copy of this book before you start buying equipment. Could save you money and frustration in the long run. Enjoy the journey.
  18. Great result, Stu. Sometimes nights that start as 'is it worth bothering?' can produce gems like this. So I guess the answer should always be 'yes' ...
  19. Your Ha filter will only let through a narrow bit of the spectrum - 6nm on either side of that emission line. As such, the IR is automatically blocked (along with the rest of the spectrum).
  20. This theory certainly seems to be "flavour of the month" - it's pretty much what Brian Cox was saying on his series a few weeks back. Of course, saying that this sort of migration might have produced the results we now see is a very long way from proving that that is what actually happened ... and any evidence to support his statements was decidedly lacking on the BC prog. Was there any evidence given on the NOVA prog?
  21. Two great "firsts" there, Greg. Many more to come ...
  22. It was ... but it isn't what it used to be ...
  23. For anyone who cannot see it, here is a copy of the text: LP.txt
  24. With me doing very little in the way of visual these days, I have gradually reduced my range of eyepieces until I have only one non-bulk-standard one left. That's my pentax 14XL and it does me very well for the small amount of visual I do. So I will stick with that one.
