  1. If I didn't already own two long 'fracs I might have been tempted by one of these, more likely the 102mm for the slightly larger aperture. Would be interesting to see how it would perform against my f11 or f8.3 scopes, but as I am currently wanting to reduce the number of scopes I have that is out of the question at the moment. Would be interesting to see your thoughts on it when you get it Chris, and wether this would be a keeper for you, or up for sale quickly to try another scope!
  2. Nice couple of hours observing. Managed to track Vesta down once again. Now warming up with a cup of tea as it is pretty chilly out there! :)

  3. Part III (starting to sound like episodes from Star Wars now! Hehe! ); Some 20x80 Celestron Skymaster binoculars bought of Chris on here (many thanks Chris ) and arrived this morning by Parcelforce. Also, about an hour later I got the ridiculously blooming expensive bracket from Orion which is the unimpressive small black bar under the binocular silver securing bar) to allow me to fit the new binos to my Orion binocular mount, so hoping the forecasted good weather for clear skies for the next three nights materialise to be able to use them!
  4. Looks like some clear nights ahead for the next three nights, at least that's what's forcast for where I live anyway. Fingers crossed! :)

  5. All these large 'facs make my smaller f11 & f8.3 'fracs on my Skytee II look positively dwarflike!
  6. Looks like Amazon do them, so I'll tell 'em to expect a rush on them! https://www.amazon.co.uk/Black-Raven-Design-Problem-Solving/dp/B01JZLEW08/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491438076&sr=8-1&keywords=joke+flowchart+mugs
  7. I'm loving tracking Vesta through Gemini. 4 nights out of 5 tracking it is pretty good, especially with the lousy weather here lately! Managed just to see 41P too with averted vision just! :)

  8. My Astro mojo is on a high lately. Even cloudy weather is not damping it down! Hehe! ???

  9. Third night in a row I've been able to track Vesta. Pretty good going for the UK I think! Vesta's movement over these three nights has been easily observed. Will post more sketches soon of its path. ?

  14. Part 2: The postie was busy today with more Astro goodies coming in the mail. First up was a book from Amazon on Astro sketching (which I hope to start to do soon), next some Astro gloves, then a Baader Genuine Orthoscopic 7mm EP (thanks Grumpy Martian), and finally some cables for my 6/8SE Goto mount I got off Parallaxerr a few weeks back. That will keep me going for a day or two until more Astro goodies arrive next week! Hehe!
  15. Yeah! Managed to bag Vesta tonight. Was easier than I thought to spot with the surrounding stars and was the brightest in the EP too, so well chuffed! :):):)

Thanks Reggie. Was hoping that I may just catch it with the camera, and in the end it popped out quite easily once I zoomed out for a wider field of view with the camera and a shorter exposure time of 6 seconds. :)

  16. To make it easier to carry out my long Altair Astro f11 Starwave 102mm 'frac to observe with I splurged out for the official carry handle to go with it, which arrived about 30mins ago. Part 2 of what the postie brings arrives tomorrow from Amazon!
  17. Weather forcast is for clear this evening, so fingers crossed the Vesta hunt can begin! :)

Grrrrr.......those clouds are teasing me still. Hope I get at least  an hour break soon otherwise I'll call it a night! ????

  18. Nice work Charl. Looks busier than normal up there, so may have a look through my Lunt wedge.
  19. As per everyone else an ALt-Az mount is much easier to use than an EQ mount. I don't do EQ mounts either and find my Alt-AZ and Goto mounts (which are also Alt-AZ mounts too) just fine for widefield views and close up views of the planets and moon etc. You don't need to use an EQ mount at all to enjoy astronomy at all. You can gat a Skywatcher Startravel ST80 on an AZ-3 mount (an Alt-AZ mount) for quite a reasonable price, and it should perform as well, if not better, than a spotting scope which is more suited to daytime terrestrial use rather than for nighttime astronomy. However, you could also get an erecting lens for the ST120 to use for terrestrial use too if you wanted it for dual purposes. The scope will out of the box show views eversed left to right and vice versa which is what all refractors will show without an erecting diagonal. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/startravel/skywatcher-startravel-80-az3.html
  20. Happy birthday Derek. You'll love the Skyfi USB. I have Skyportal wifi for my 6/8SE got mount, and control it with Skysafari Pro. It works a treat, and it is so easy to select an object to view, and also control the mount too. Enjoy your new toys!
  21. Just managed to catch 5 minutes of observing the shadow of Io on Jupiter before clouds fully rolled in. Also managed to see a nice bright green meteor though also at 22:56, which must have been bright as I saw it through thin cloud/haze in the direction of Leo. :)

  22. Managed to bag Venus just before I went behind houses, and Mercury too for the first time for ages. Pushed the mag a little, but could see the phase of Mercury very easily. Had a quick peek at Mars too! :)

It went behind houses, not I. ?

Haha, I was about to ask, what were you doing going behind houses. :hiding:Happy for your planetary delights; the planets always please.

Just got back in giving my new scope, Celestron Goto mount & wifi Skyportal connection a good test out. All went well. Now back inside warming up, but most likely try Jupiter later on too. :)
