  1. Had a quick look through the new Televue 10mm Delos I got off Marki last night. Even with the moon out and  clouds too it looks looks it will give great views! :)

  2. Sky wasn't great, but still managed to see Neptune pretty well by pushing the magnification up to 214x with the Powermate. :)

Nice catch! Any Orionids out there?

Hi Reggie. Sadly clouded over soon after viewing Neptune alas, so unable to tell as yet!

  3. Another fun night with the Goto mount, with my Starwave 102mm f11 'frac attached for some great views! :)

  4. Just had so much fun outside observing, anyone would think I'm not at work in the morning! Yikes! ;)

  5. Even though the skies were cruddy, I just managed to bag the blue snowball planetary nebula! Happy bunny! :)

Hi Chris. I used my ST120 frac on my Goto mount. When I get a chance next I'm going to see if I can see I with the 4 SE as well. :)

Good show, Knighty! Wishing you a crackin' report with the 4 SE :hello2:

  6. Hoping for more clear skies tonight, but looks like it might be 50/50 either way! :(

hope you get some clear sky mate, it 100% against here, ive a chance in the morrning for some solar, but tomorrow night theres a load of wet and windy stuff coming in from the west and its going to be covering most of the uk monday. hope the forcast is wrong.  charl.

Yeah, not looking good here now. Hard. Wall to wall cloud, so doubt it will clear up much, but live in hope. :)

  7. After looking at it again I see what you mean! Is there an optics expert in the house?
  8. Wish that was the only thing that created my LP!
  9. Collect a great second hand Az Goto mount on Friday from Dobbie. Can't wait to use it, so hoping that o get some clear skies for the weekend! Fingers crossed! :)

      To get, not o get!

  10. Quite a few mods there. Well done. Can't say I've had any issues with any of the above really on my tripod, the only mod I did fit to my Az3 tripod mount head was a counterweight to allow better control when near zenith, especially with heavier EP's fitted. Due to LP I usually use the tripod in the lowest height possible to dodge the glare from street lamps on the road behind my house, or on the path in front of it, so stability has never been an issue for mine really.
  11. Somebody needs to tell Skywatcher about this then, as they supply quite a few of their telescopes with a 45 degree diagonal, ones which are clearly designed for astronomical rather than terrestrial use. Of course one of the first upgrades I got for my Skywatcher Startravel 120mm f5 'frac was get a good 90 degree diagonal.
  12. Thanks. I saw some on eBay last night, so may order up some to do my dew shield.
  13. I like the wrapping on the dew shield. I may wrap mine up too, as it matches the dark body of the scope too. Got the full inside of my scope fully flocked, even inside my Crayford focuser tube, so no stray light bouncing about in my ST120! Where did you get the wrapping from?
  14. My Skywatcher Startravel 120mm f5 frac, with my new addition in my collection of my Altair Astro Starwave 102mm achromatic f11. Still awaiting a decent first light with it due to work and weather, but views so far have been cracking!
  15. I'm assuming your 45 degree diagonal is a standard prism type one supplied with the scope? Check to make sure the prism is not loose, or is able to move at all in its housing as I had an old stock Celestron prism diagonal that used to move about slightly and cause similar issues.
  16. Yeah, I'm buying a second hand 20mm Televue plossl too. And then just to propel myself even further down that long slippery slope I went and pushed the button on a new 14mm Baader Morpheus EP! Yikes! I need counselling! Hehe!
  17. Sorry, the Chris I thought you meant isn't in fact the Chris I meant in my post. Oops!
  18. Hi and welcome back. Chris is still around on here. I actually bought a scope from him earlier this year and went to his house to pick it up. I'm sure you'll run into him again here as well again. Enjoy your time on the forum, and a big hi from the UK!
  19. My new Altair Astro 102mm f11 frac arrived back home today after going back for the new focuser refit. So now I just need those clear skies to test it out tonight on Saturn & Mars! :)

Grrrrr......no luck so far. Cloud obscuring any views. Looking better for tomorrow night according to FLO's 'Clear Outside' app at least, so fingers crossed for that! :)

  20. DHL managed to destroy the focuser on my new scope. Obviously been playing rugby with the damn thing. Hope it doesn't take too long for the supplier to get a new one sent out. Grrrrrr.......????

    1. xtreemchaos

      xtreemchaos

oh mate, im gutted for you, hope thay sort it out soon, darn DHL,guess the mountain was too high for them. ive often had deliverys fom them and know when there outside my house by the banging coming from there van as thay chuck stuff around, thay should get fined when stuff get broke because thay clearly dont give a dam about our goods. charl.

      Knighty2112

As Chaos said, try not to think about it, then when Friday arrives you'll be pleasantly surprised. But I think this is quite hard to keep off your mind...:happy11:

      Knighty2112

Yeah, was looking forward to having a first light with them tonight as the forcast is to be clear until around midnight, but Friday is not too long to wait. I'm busy with work on the next three days so wouldn't be able to use it fully intil Friday anyway. :)

  22. Looking good so far for clear skies tonight. Hope I don't get disappointed again when darkness falls! Fingers crossed for some meteor sightings, and a little observing too! :)

How many meteors did you see in total (11 and 12 August).

I saw max 30 in really dark skies. Weird, Everyone in Britain seems to be seeing 50-60 but here I can only see 15 a night.

    3. Knighty2112

      Knighty2112

That's everyone in Britain then except me! Lol! ;)

I'm in the states with urban skies (Bortle 5) and managed to see 20 over a period of two hours. I was in and out of the house a lot and probably missed some. Several were really bright with long trails!

  23. Can't wait till Monday (fingers crossed!) when my new refractor arrives. I'll be like a kid on Christmas morning! :)
