  1. Clear skies forecast, moon sets 10.30ish, street lights go out at 12 on Sundays, no work tomorrow. Big scopes out. What could possibly go wrong :)

Envious of the curfew for street lights. Wish they would do that where I live, but know it won't happen, so I'll carry on been envious for ya! ;)

  2. M11 was at an altitude of 35°, quite pleased I found it with the bins then the baby tak with a 24mm panoptic. A tiny fuzzy blob, makes me appreciate the 16" :)

  3. Got a cracking view of Saturn and Titan with the baby tack x35

Should have asked, do you have a means to image it?

I've managed to get one with the canon, it was quite difficult to focus but I think I've got it ok. Will post it later.

F3.3s a bit fast, & u need 2 people to sit the primary in the mirror box. I don't think I'd end up looking through it very often even if I could afford it :)

Mike, If u can't get the mag, let me know, I'll send it to u in a couple of weeks or so if u like. I'll only end up adding it to a pile on a table.

  8. Just seen the Harlow decision on the news to begin leaving st lights on all night again. Very depressing, I suppose the other councils will consider doing the same now!

Yup seems a lot of back peddling elsewhere about this.

In honesty I cannot see it making a great deal of difference in Harlow. They were never going to plunge Harlow into darkness, lights were not "off" just "reduced". If you know the place it just would never happen. So I suspect the choice was 100% lights on or 90% all on even when "off". It is/was a new town and the principles it was built on are subtly different.

Perhaps, I still think other councils will be under more pressure to follow suit. Maybe they'll resist :)

  9. I think I just spotted Andromeda wth my naked eye, which is a first from my back garden

I love it when it gets high up enough to see naked eye. I remember my dad showing me it when I was young with naked eye and binoculars. Was in awe.

Yes, contrast was quite good everywhere for short while. Got some good views with the bins.

That's great news. It's amazing to realize that you are looking at light that has travelled over 2 million light-years to reach our eyes.

  15. Shame the part-night lighting people didn't change the clocks, they're going off at 1am now instead of 12.

My lot are such that I can tell if I am late going to bed, the lights outside are all off at very close to midnight, say plus or minus 5 minutes. Usually about 2 or 3 minutes after midnight. If I am a bit late then I often take a look outside as it is fairly dark. Last year they "drifted" and were going off at 11:40ish, so used to it being midnight I actually checked the clocks.

just read up on part-night lighting, how cool is that! is it a big difference for imaging from when the lights were on?

    4. Scooot

      Scooot

I'd imagine it's quite a help but I'm not an imager.
