StellaLyra 6" F12 CC
johninderby replied to Stu1smartcookie's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
I don’t see any problems using it on the 8” as it works ok on the RC version. -
StellaLyra 6" F12 CC
johninderby replied to Stu1smartcookie's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Collimation isn’t too difficult and you just need a collimation cap. Although as mentioned it holds collimation so well never needed to touch mine. I will be getting one of these though to fine tune the collimation on the 8” for imaging. https://www.firstlightoptics.com/other-collimation-tools/ts-2-inch-led-rc-collimator.html -
StellaLyra 6" F12 CC

I have one as my grab’n’go scope. Nothing bad to say about it although I have upgraded to a Baader Steeltrack focuser. Having a proper dual speed focuser is very nice. The stock focuser is all right but no Steeltrack Great lunar and planetary scope but should also be good on double stars. Build quality is excellent and holds collimation really well. Have never needed to collimate mine. The lack of dewing problems is a big advantage compared to a mak. I find it’s ready for use with very little cooldown. Weighs about 6kg so not the lightest. I also have the 8” version. -

Solar transits yes I would think so but not lunar as the JWST will be much further away than the moon. Seeing the moon occult the JWST should be possible.

An obvious mistake on the price. Surely they meant £19.95 🤔 😁😁 -
Collimation tools and secondary offset
johninderby replied to Shimonu's topic in Getting Started Equipment Help and Advice
Best tool for setting up the secondary is a Concentre. https://www.teleskop-express.de/shop/product_info.php/language/en/info/p5506_TS-Optics-Concenter-2--Collimation-Eyepiece-for-Newtonian-Telescopes.html Allows you to get the secondary perfectly centred and takes care of offset. Once the secondary is perfect collimating the primary is much easier. BTW before adjusting the secondary it’s a good idea to check to see that the focuser is square to the tube. -

Looking for Alt-AZ mount for me Sky Watcher 100ED
johninderby replied to Doasqa's topic in Discussions - Mounts
The Rowan AZ75 should be released soon. Super high quality alt-az mount and smaller and cheaper than the AZ100. -
The Nexstar 5i came with the bigger mount now used for the 6” and 8” OTAs not the smaller mount now used for the 4” and 5” OTAs. Used to have one and while it was rock solid the OTA was not removable.
-
The 8SE mount was originally designed for the 5” SCT and while the 8SE is usable the mount is at its absolute limit with the 8” OTA. Celestron does the 8” SCT on a beefier mount. https://www.rothervalleyoptics.co.uk/celestron-nexstar-evolution-8-sct-telescope.html

My 8” CC is one reason I sold my 10” Bresser dob. Although the Bresser is a fine scope for a mass produced scope I simply found I preferred the CC. One thing I think that has held back this scope a bit is the hatchet job done on it in a certain CN review. Bias at it’s worst and just the opposite of what my experience in real world use of the scopes involved has shown. As you have mentioned real world experience can tell a different story. And a Merry Xmas to you as well. 🎄
