  1. A sanity check then guys for the CMOS world.... Do you have to take flat darks with a CMOS? With a CCD when PixInsight calibration routine scales a dark to the flats it kicks off a warning about the dark having no correlation to the flats (because of the radically different exposure time). This implies that darks with flats on a CCD do not matter that much. Are we saying it *does* matter with a CMOS camera? Why so? PI does not know the light/flat was taken with a CCD or a CMOS does it? Also, with a CCD the "normal" dark of say 20 mins can be scaled to a light of 10 minutes by using "half" of the dark. Is this still the case with CMOS?
  2. Thanks, yes my role is safe at the moment but one does not know what the future holds with this virus about and so I do not want to be dropping two or three grand - maybe more - on astro cameras whilst there is so much employment uncertainty.
  3. I'll be awaiting one of these APS-C mono cameras. I would also like a colour QHY268 too. I'm not spending any money on frivolous purchases at the minute though until I have more job certainty and so an October/early winter season release timeframe fits very well with me.
  4. Me too. I think I will wait for these cameras rather than go for the 1600 - good though that is by all accounts. However, a little voice says to me try out the ASI 2600 or QHy268C.
  5. Almost 100% a USB cable issue or a a driver that has updated in the background. It could be an electronic fault with the camera but that is most unlikely, electronics nowadays is very robust. Tried a different cable? Different USB port on the computer?
  6. Does anyone still use these please? If so what do you use it for? I have three kicking around that I rediscovered. I need to test them. Maybe one could be the basis for an all-sky cam maybe.
  7. Congrats. I have been very impressed with mine.
  8. Yep, I've got a shopping list for quite a few bits at the minute and there's no stock anywhere. It can wait and it's a first world problem I'd suggest and very minor in comparison with the current craziness in the world. Hope it's not impacting your business unduly, not being able to sell anything, because there's nothing on the shelf to sell ......
  9. I chanced across this diagram and thought it useful to share.
  10. Why should the USB speed cause AMP glow? USB is a digital medium to connect two devices together. It should have no effect at all on the media being transferred between the two devices.
  11. ....to say never available. Not sure if anyone in the UK sells the QHY268C yet...
  12. I'd be interested also in the colour ASI2600 or the QHY268C. They are a very, very interesting proposition. A bit rich though
  13. Also, with ZWO, it will may take them a few HW iterations for them to get it right and iron out glitches. Not sure I want to be an early adopter of a ZWO camera TBH. The 1600 is tried and tested.
  14. I've always found this a very tough object to process in HOO. I'm happy with the OIII. Equally happy with the Ha. But when I HOO them, it all goes pear-shaped. I need to have another go, hopefully to get something as good as you
  15. Following with interest. I'm also in the market for a 4/3rds sensor mono too. Ideally APS_C but 4/3 would be acceptable.
  16. In the latest PS you can just click on camera raw from anywhere and fire it up.
  17. No, it works for any colour image - image in RGB mode that is.
  18. I have been very pleased with my i7-8700K with 32G overclocked to 5Ghz, runs like a charm and didn't cost the earth when I bought the bits in 2019. Runs 12 threads in PixInsight.
  19. I'm really surprised ay this. Do you have the reducer connected Ken or is the scope at native FL? You may or may not be aware that with the reducer the distance to the chip is crucial that it matches that of the reducer. To the mm. I am sure you have checked but there is nothing, absolutely nothing that could be reflecting the light in the path in some way? A lens hood, dew shield or something? Back to basics Ken but don't overlook them mate.
  20. Olly, so Registar can register and *resize* all the filters' stars to a nominated master's stars - luminance I'd guess??? That is a mightily powerful trick if so and I do not think PixInsight can do that in its Star Alignment process.
